Does anyone else on here get a lot of ear pressure ? Like somethings blocked in them.. I get them with a headache but it's not a severe headache it's just a dull ache.. Any one else?? Dr looked at them yesterday and said they looked fine.

Do you know a way to relieve the pressure? It's really scaring me right now it's in my right ear right now :(

I get it also, very often. It causes no problems except tinnitus...it sounds like crickets all the time. The tinnitus gets louder when I'm tired so I have an indicator when I should go get my rest. It doesn't mean anything is terribly wrong, just focus on something else.

For those rare times you happen to be congested with a cold at the same time, take some cold medicine to decongest yourself but ONLY what the pharmacist recommends because you can get into trouble when you start taking decongestants/stimulants. The stimulants are in Sudaphed and all decongestants that have ingredients that have the letters "phe" in their ingredients list. Please ask a pharmacist 1st. The decongestant can be helpful to get any fluid to dry up that's in your inner ear where it doesn't belong.

Most of the time the pressure isn't a problem and is nothing to worry about. It's mostly a nuisance and something you try to ignore. If you focus on something else that's interesting to you, you can forget about your ear.

OMG, the noise of crickets is just what this is just what I have at the moment. It started badly over a week ago. My right ear is in pain. I'm wondering if it's related to a virus I'm just recovering from (not a cold) but nausea one. Or whether I've done damage from scratching my ears too much. I didn't call it crickets but a snipping noise, but buzzy at the same time, like when someone cuts your hair but very annoying. It has eased up quite a bit (the noise) but the pain is still there, feels in my bone. Plus had a couple of bad migraines along with the virus.

I suppose it's possible it could be linked to your nausea bug. Did you have any other symptoms of a virus like a sore throat, congestion or cough? Nausea and an earache alone seem an odd match.

Yes the Duty Doctor thinks it's from the virus. No, I had no cough or sore throat so it is an odd mix but I have Fibromyalgia where all sorts of odd pain symptoms are thrown up!

Pinch your nostrils with you fingers so your nose is closed and then blow your nose this will unblock them a bit. Get some ear wax liquid remover if nothing it might give you a placebo affect. A lot of these type of anxiety symptoms are hard to relieve and often the best way is by distraction get your focus of it, try to reduce your anxiety levels as much as possible.

Yea I've suffered for ear pressure for years sometimes so badly ive hurt my jaw and in the process make myself look like a proper drug addict trying to chew his own face off.

I've also been to the doctors, a couple of times it's genuinely been an ear infection which antibiotics has sorted but it's been present at other times.

Last time there were no visible problems that the doctor could see so he suggested a blocked eustacian tube and suggested the process of nasal douching,

Basically snorting a warm solution of salt water and bicarbonate of soda.

Maybe worth a try?

My ears don't feel blocked but I am getting the pain in my ear and around the surrounding bone. Nurofen helps which makes me think it must be inflammation of some sort...

YES! Have been having the ear pain on & off for a few years now. Have seen an ENT and my ears always check out fine. They finally sent me to a specialist in Boston. Still found nothing wrong. That ENT ordered MRI, came back clean .Had vestibular testing, came back clean. I DO have a history of migraine. Am seeing a new neurologist part of this ENT group in Boston. A Neuro-otologist. He seem to this this dull ear pain (only in left ear) is part of a migraine. A migraine - without the actual migraine! I am getting other symptoms... heavy head and heaviness over left eye. ALL ON LEFT side. No relief yet. On Topamax 75mcg... HOPING something kicks in soon....

Also taking magnesium & calcium over the counter. Does any of that sound like you?

If you can't resolve your ear issue, Maybe see a neuro. It's not uncommon for ear issue to be related to migraine or even your jaw. Make sure your bite is aligned :) A local chiro practor or dentist can help.

MHV1 makes a good point. If you have TMJ you sometimes find your joint in your jaw pops in and out of place and aggravates your ear and eustachian tube feelings of fullness. I also find it's easy to have my sinuses full on one side of my head and clear on the other side. It's no big deal, just some mucus in my sinuses that's annoying. It doesn't mean I have any other serious health problem. At least this is true for me and other people I know.

Sometimes my sinuses can be so full of mucus that I feel pain in my upper teeth and my dentist confirms it by X-rays. My sinuses lay over my upper teeth and gums and block them from view because they are sagging so low over my teeth (behind them)...heavy and full of mucus. That's when a good decongestant without stimulants is called for in my case!

My jaw cracks everytime I open my mouth but I've never had any issues with ear pressure or anything like this. I get a lot of headaches and I have a bad case of anxiety. I over think every symptom to say I'm dying..

BonnieSue in reply toJessharper97

I count you lucky that you've not had ear pressure. That's a good thing for you. Headaches go along with the jaw joint popping and cracking like it does. I suppose this gives you anxiety?

What if you would remove your thoughts right then from your jaw and head health and place them on a game or book or anything at all that distracts you from thinking about your health deteriorating? If you refused to think about the whole subject and focused your mind elsewhere, you could think of something else entirely and not conclude you're dying. It takes effort but it's worth it. It gets easier with practice.

Hi! My jaw does the same. Sounds like tmj problem. That explains the headache. Do you grind your teeth? Or find your jaw is sore in the morning? I clench and grind my teeth (anxiety related) and it gives me a headache, and makes my jaw sore.

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply toBlacknblue

I sure do. I clench, grind and wake up with all of the facial muscles sore. Especially my jaw muscles. My dentist has made a night guard that goes over my bottom teeth to prevent tooth damage when I sleep and grind my teeth, but I just clench and grind more when I feel that foreign object in my mouth. My sister does the same. But we are wearing our teeth away by all this grinding. It's bad news for us.

Interesting that it's related to migraine. I do get migraines a lot but had a couple of really bad uns this week along with a stomach virus and also pain in my right ear (first migraine was on the right) but the pain in ear started before migraine and also accompanied with tinnitus.

I have had auras without migraine pain or just a little pain and my mum used to have what was described as classic migraine ie auras with no pain!

OMG, this is just what I have at the moment, Jessica. My right ear is in pain. I'm wondering if it's related to a virus I've just had or whether I've done myself an injury scratching my ears too much. It is actually painful. Nurofen helps.

Hi, this might be a bit random but how is your blood pressure? Sometimes high blood pressure may present like that.

FoggyMoggy profile image
FoggyMoggy in reply toBlacknblue

Oh god, I hope not. The last thing I need is to be worrying about blood pressure. Not sure what Jessica thinks

Am in the UK, but yes, I know one pharmacist who'll do it. I can't cope with the auto cuffs - I have fibromyalgia so they strangle my arm. I do have my bp monitored regularly as I used to have it high in my twenties but was due to the pill. It's been more of less normal for decades except last two readings were a bit high but not consistent - one had the diastolic high, next time that was normal and the systolic high (or vice versa) but not really high, just borderline. A lot of those symptoms are ones I get anyway especially with fibro :/

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with so much. It may not be blood pressure, just a possibility. It could be side effect of medication, even a dental problem if it's only on one side. I don't think it's anything too serious to worry oneself even more

FoggyMoggy profile image
FoggyMoggy in reply toBlacknblue

No worries. I am not trying to ignore that possibility but think it may be to do with the virus and also it may be I have slightly injured my ear because of badly itching it! If it doesn't clear up soon I will see the doctor. Thanks for your support anyway :)

Thank you everyone, I'm sorry to hear others are going through the same thing, hopefully all gets well soon! I have an inflamed stomach and a blockage so I have been to the hospital many times and blood pressure and blood sugar are normal but change when I have a panic attack. I do wake up with a sore jaw a lot and I do believe I clench my mouth right at night due to my headache or being scared to sleep.. Hopefully this goes away and I can get over this soon. Thank you for everyone's advice!
