Does anyone know why my doctor is so hesitant to give me a referral? He won’t give me a referral for a mental health doctor or anything else. He won’t even give me one for a psychiatrist!!! He’s been my doctor for 15 years so I’m wondering why

I’d wonder why.. too. :/ that sucks . Like is he gonna sit and listen to you vent about your problems ? No . I don’t get it . Is there maybe a Anxiety support group you can go to in the area ? Something....until you figure out what the issue is ?

Hi Brih677, that does seem strange unless he wants to be the only doctor you will see.

I once had an Internal Medicine doctor, who every time I went off on my own in seeing a specialist

I could tell he was annoyed. I really think he wanted to be the only doctor addressing my health

care.

Are you able to set something up on your own or is it a matter of insurance not covering the visits?

Yes insurance doesn’t cover anything and I just don’t have the funds to go.

Hi Brih677,

I think you have to a conversation with your doctor along the lines of "until now I have been happy with the care you have provided. I would like a referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist for the (reason)...".

If your doctor won't budge then try another - you don't have to feel guilty for doing so to get the health care you want
