Snow_Quartz, this needs to be addressed immediately. If you cannot find an adult who can support you or a school nurse, let us know. We can report this to our administrator and they will look into it. We need to keep you safe...

I can't understand why your parents won't believe you. Is there more behind this then you are telling us? Are you under 18? Please let us know what we can do to help you. xx

Sorry to hear that how old are you. Despite what your parents think your body and mind is your own - they don't own you. You have responsibility for your health and by the sounds of it you already realise you need help. There is lots of support around hopefully we can help too x

You do not need permission from anyone to se a doctor!!

If necessary, and possible, call the surgery where you're registered and make an appt; for a time when your parents will not know, if they're really being unreasonable.

If you're at school, or work, you're entitled to time to attend a doctor.

Also, I forgot to say, if you do have Lupus, in a few cases it can cause symptoms as you have described - it's particularly likely to do so long before physical symptoms are evident, by as much as 3 or 4 years.

I had a similar "breakdown", at the time I had no thought or symptoms of Lupus, nor did I for another 3 years-ish.

Very best with it all.... <3

Hi Joe;

Are you aware that your reply comes over as somewhat cold, critical, unsympathetic and devoid of empathy... how would you feel if you were in that situation ... and someone left a comment like yours..?

If you can't be supportive or constructively helpful, I think it's best not to say anything...

(I say this in case it was not your intention, so you know).

You're FAR from alone, Sweet-pea; significant anxiety is a symptom present in approx. 70% of those of us with SLE.

Also, are you taking corticosteroids long term? If so, they too can cause anxiety and other emotional distress...

Regardless of whether you take steroids, I can't speak highly enough of a simple thing, but one I did not know of before: beta blockers. Usually Propanolol.

It is not an anxiolytic; but often our anxiety is not based on real emotion! It's sometimes, &/or at least partly, generated by the sympathetic Nervous System causing the PHYSICAL manifestations of anxiety, fear, stress, etc. This sets in motion a bio-feedback loop, whereby these physiological processes Cause feelings of anxiety.

But the anxiety causes the existing stress to intensify; the more anxious you are, the faster and harder your heart pounds, you sweat more, maybe even shake; feel breathless; you're too hot & too cold in quick succession, etc.

In the past I could not believe this was true to any significant extent; since having Lupus, I vouch for its truth! :-/

Also, Knowing the facts does not make it less.

BUT ... if you've not tried beta-blockers (e.g, propanolol) before, they could be the miracle they were for me ... (until they became gradually less effective, and the dosage has increased as far as poss.)

That does not usually happen tho, so please do pester yr GP until you at least have a vhance to see if they will help..

Wish you all the best...

In solidarity. Aileen.

You're very welcome, dear ...I wish you Every good wish.

I'm seldom here, as I can't understand how it works - so many different parts: I don't know how they relate to each other or how to find anything!! :-D

Snow_Quartz, depending how old you are, you may have to turn to another family member or a school social worker and maybe they can convince your parents that you need help. Only a psychiatrist will be able to diagnose your condition and put you on the proper medication and/or therapy. Good Luck. It sounds like this has really become a growing problem with you. x
