The first panic attack I ever experienced was on a flight back from my honeymoon. That was nine years ago and I have never stepped foot on a plane since. Before then I had been on planes on numerous occasions and quite enjoyed it. Never been anxious about it. I now have 2 young boys and don't want them to miss out on travelling because of my anxiety. My hope is to take them to America one day which is a LONG flight so I decided to book a holiday abroad this year which felt fine to me 18 months ago when I booked it but now the flight is less than two weeks away my anxiety is through the roof. Its a weird feeling though because I am exited about the holiday but very anxious about getting on the plane. Most people I talk to with flying anxiety its all to do with the plane and what could go wrong with it or to do with terrorists etc. Nothing like that bothers me because I think that when your times up your times up and we cannot change that so there is no point worrying about it. What I get anxious about is having a panic attack on the plane (like I did) and I cannot get off and run home to my safe place. Crazy right that I am more anxious about having a panic attack than dying! I really don't want to spoil this for my hubby and kids and I know if I don't do it this time I never will! I have some meds of Doctors as a backup but I really would like to go it alone if possible. My question is anyone else have a similar anxiety and been on a plane since and if so any tips?

Hi there, I don't experience flying anxiety as such but it's a thought now with one thing and another with so much terrorism etc. I hope you hear back from others on here that can help with advice. I do hope you enjoy your holiday with your family and all the best to you x
Hi amh6971,
I think its the lead up to it that triggers the fear and anxiety.
A week ago I went away for three days. On the way to the trip two mini attacks. Once I got there I had no anxiety or panic attacks.
I know you will have an amazing trip. Try some relaxing technique.
I've got a few coping techniques for when I'm alone or panicky.
I drop my tongue tongue to the bottom of my mouth relax my jaw and just breathe.
I have a supportive family so I'm sure you will have that on plane or I hope.
Best of luck ☺
