Taking Fluoxetine (20mg)

This is my first time taking medication and I am terrified. I wanted this more then anything and now that I have it, I don't want it at all. I've been crying for ages now with the tablet in my hand. I'm just so scared if I get side effects or if they don't work.

_Reba_ we have all been there...at least you got further than I did at the beginning. I would

have the prescription filled and then put it on the shelf along with the other bottles untouched.

You at least have it in your hand.

Write down the name of the drug, the dose and the time you took it. Sometimes it helps letting

someone know you are about to take it for the first time. (including the forum) Once you take it,

go onto something else. Do not sit there waiting for a miracle or a symptom. You will be okay.

Keep a positive attitude and remember it does take time to start working. Good Luck Reba! x

Thank you but I have never been so scared to do anything in my life, it's only a tablet and it scares me. I just feel like not taking it at all.

Reba, I know the fear is real and it's intense. Don't forget, your doctor prescribed it with you in mind. You will never know if this might be the key that makes a difference. We all need that crutch once in a while or we end up staying stuck.

Believe in the doctor, believe in yourself that this is the way to go right now. x

A lot of us have been right where you are now. You did the right thing. It will take time for the meds to build up in your system, but stick with it give it a chance to work. Keep us posted😀

I've been taking it for a week and I'm doing alright. Everyone is different so you probably need to go on different medication?

Look at you _Reba_, only 1 week and I see a difference. A difference in your way of thinking, wise and constructive responses to others. I can only imagine how you will be feeling when your med reaches full efficacy. Keep the positive attitude and know that each step forward will bring you to your goal. Anxiety Free

Thank you! I no longer have panic attacks everyday and it's even helping my OCD too. I still get the odd moment of panic but I think I'm able to beat it. I'm hoping I'm a few more weeks then I will notice an even bigger difference.

_Reba_ I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Thank you for sharing this on the forum. We never know the power behind a little pill unless we take that step of faith forward. And you did. xx

Well that's something you'll need to ask your doctor. You can try it for a few months and wean yourself off, if anxiety comes back then you can go back on medication. Talk to your doctor about it as they know best :)

You were terrified to take Prozac?? No need to be! I thought it was a controlled substance or something. Little Prozac is good and it works! That's great. Anxiety is the most awful thing to have to sit with. And it's better than xanax. Trust me you don't want to be getting off that!!!

Just as a warning, do not stop it abruptly. Check in and ask your doctor how he wants to get you off it because I got the flu when I was on Prozac and I didn't take any and ended up in the ER. Good wishes!!!

Thank you for the advice! ❤️

Hi Hun I’m on fluoxetine and have been for 5 years or so , I can off them for a month and went back on them recently. The side effect arnt bad hun not on these ones and they will calm and relax you give them chance I think these are the best ones I’ve ever been on. Your probably feel a little sleepy and wanna relax more sometimes people get side effects sometimes they don’t or sometimes different to others. But I believe you are strong and you can do this xxxxxxx

I would say that taking any anti depressants if you start them ,I would carry on doing so as recommended. And 20mgs is a low dose the higher the dose the more your experience side effects so 20mgs is not the highest it goes and thto side effects arnt as bad as others I’ve been on. If you get to a stage where you don’t like the tablet then go To you doctors and speak with them and they will tell you the right way to go. But honestly I’m fine on them and I know loads others have been too. But the choice is yours. All the best xx

This forum is magnificent! I get side effects from many antidepressants, even ones I have tried before! Soo happy this is common and happens to other people as I thought that I was going mad!! Trying fluoxetine for the first time also. I tried Vortixetine and it worked for me for the first 3-4 weeks then gave me bad symptoms (stopped working). Please keep posting as I am new on here- it really helps to talk! I am going into my Prozac journey with both feet in; staying confident!!!
