Hi, i've been on fluoxetine/prozac for 1 week now, but my anxiety seems to have gone up (as well as with a few other side effects). I was just wondering how long it took anyone on Prozac to start feeling better, and is the 2nd week going to be worse than the first? Thanks in advance

It took me 4 weeks to notice the difference and the first 2 weeks when I started were brutal the doctor told me that it gets worse before it gets better :( hold on ok you'll be fine in a week or two counting down the days helps me

Thanks for the reply alwaysafraid! I'm currently on day 6. It's really weird, days 1-4 on fluoxetine i actually felt better, but now all of a sudden i've noticed my side effects and anxiety may be getting more severe. did this happen to you or was it worse for you from day 1 on fluoxetine? Feels like a crazy roller coaster ride to be honest!

Hi when I was on twenty mg I got worse

I had to go stay with relatives while it kicked in so I didn't do anything "stupid" i did have two out burst.

When I was increased to 40mg it took over within a week and I was fine they told me to b on it for 3 months until then I had to learn how to naturally calm my anxiety I came of it was fine then bam anxiety is back the doc still wants me to wait until I get back on :(

Hi there

Starting a new medicine it s always challenging especially when it get worse before it gets better!!!try to stay on it till the 3rd week..if you feel like it s really unbearably and you re really not happy about it go back to go gp.Good luck and be strong

Hi Medstudent.

I have been on and off Prozac for years. It is my absolute life saver.

It usually takes about 3 weeks to kick in. Good luck.

Hi, think it can take a few weeks to kick in but everyones different can only go by my daughter's experience , she also had the anxiety to start with then it took about 5 or 6 weeks before she was feeling better but if you're not sure it's best to go back to doctor's for advice :) good luck hope things work out ok xx
