Hi JadeDennis, once you have been diagnosed with Anxiety/Panic Disorder by a doctor then the best thing to do is get a good therapist as well as some short term medication. During this time you will work on different techniques that will help you deal with your panic disorder. You need to be patient and work towards moving forward. The forum is a good place to get the support and understanding you need. You will see that you are not alone. Listen to the responses to the different issues we all go through. Take what works for you. Remember we are all different in how we respond to medication. Let your doctor be the best judge of what will work for you. Be patient and never give up. You will reach your goal.

Please do not take medications for anxiety.. its a NATURAL reaction the body does.. I suffer from panic disorder/ agoraphobia and most times i cannot leave my comfortzone but I force myself because I have been stuck in my own town for 4 years now and leaving it just makes me feel like im going to die (agoraphobia) please do not take drugs they will alter your brain chemstry and we truly do not understand them yet (prescription drugs) any way its best to find the root cause but before that please know YOU CANNOT DIE from a panic attack its your body doing the FIGHT OR FLIGHT reaction so heres what to do

1.know what panic attack is

2.know your symptoms (shaking, hyperventilation/difficult breathing, fast heart rate, clampy hands and legs, sweating, hot and cold flashes, lightheadedness, etc) the list goes on

3. BREATHE this is a very big one becaude I mysef focus on the attack and symptoms I forget to just simply BREATHE.. what i mean is take deep breaths in 4 seconds out 4 seconds nice and slow in through your nose out through your mouth also your gonna think if your breething too deep and slow your not breathing adiquatrly (well i think this anyway) which causes you to become dizzy wel have no fear its your body actually spreadig blood to your body

The tingling in your legs and hands is your body tKing the blood and putting it to your head pretty neat when you truly learn what your body does during anxiety attacks

4. Remove yourself from your surroundings as this is usually whats causing the onset anxiety but if you cannot move yourself due to traffic or something put the radio on and lose yourself in the song even if you hate the song just sing to it or simply touch every object you have near you and take your mind away from the anxiety itself

5. MedicAtion is my LAST RESORT and believe me I wAs on it i felt like a robot and emotionless do you really wanna be like that? Worse part was the meds didnt help me at all

Put it this way medication in my opinion is like putting garbage under a rug or a bandaid on a cut it only helps you temporarily because once you get off the meds your anxiety is still there most of the time

6.research please i cant stress this enough learn what happens during an attack

7.never give up!!! Never let your fear take over your life i did and im struggling to get my life back !! Im miserable but im surviving and im fighting back

Another technique is to grt pen and paper and make a story to create your anxiety in a safe place make it so it triggers one and practice breathing techniques it sounds scary but trust me youll learn to beat the anxiety before it beats you
