I'm sorry if you feel that way...but maybe because of what you drank? Or because you did something heavy that is why your BP spiked. Maybe just try to relax first, then get your BP again. IDK...I hope you'll feel better...don't give up! We can do this!

Anxiety attacks can come out of the blue but I would avoid alcohol. Try reading Anxiety Panicking about Panic by Joshua Fletcher it's all about anxiety symptoms x

Jodz, anxiety doesn't come with a ten minute warning, more's the pity, it can strike out of the blue. Maybe the cider triggered it, maybe it was coincidental, if you've had cider before without any drama then it was probably coincidental. Do you know what's fueling your anxiety? We spend a lot of time here discussing the symptoms but often neglect the cause. Only you can answer that but if you can identify the cause of your anxiety disorder then you can mobilise against it. As the wise man said, there is no problem in the world that cannot be overcome by the application if human thought.

Was it just a case of low glucose level in the blood? Probably not if you'd just had a cider that is sweet. But if you have exactly the same episode again maybe talk to your doctor about it. But it's probably anxiety after all. So you treat it the same way as you treat all the other symptoms of the Big A.

That means not attaching too much importance to it. Not obsessing about it and not letting it poison your mind and nervous system with fear. Just accept it for the time being and get on with your day. When you accept things you find you don't fear them any more. I hope you heve a better day tomorrow, one that is fine all day.

jeff1943 it's not the cider I only drink that one and it's never done it before . Have no idea , the only thing I can think off was that I had a very stressful day Friday ?

I have had this before and they put a 24 hr heart monitor on and came back clear . But the high spike scares the crap out of me .

Today was def a better day thanx . But had a real foggy head and felt sick . And bp was 114 / 80 so go figure ??And thanx for your words

With 114/80 BP you will live forever!

Trouble is it's up and down like a yo yo . So not sure if that's good . I am on bp meds

Jeff1943 profile image

BP does change every few minutes depending on whetheryou've eaten, how long sitting down and of course white coat syndrome.

Yer I know it's just those massive spikes that really scare me as I feel so crook . Anyway thanx πŸ‘

Jeff1943 profile image
Jeff1943

Jodx, but what do you call a massive spike? Are you sure that they are not normal bearing in mind you experience anxiety? For example, on a really good day my systolic bp can be say 125. At other times it can be 150 specially if I've been on the internet. And at my doctors even 160 isn"t unknown but my usual bp is probably 135. That's a lot of variations but as I'm an older guy those measurements are fine. What do you call a massive spike? In the u.k. the upper limit for normal is 140, in the u.s. it's 120.

So if you're living in the u.s. and have high b.p. of say 130 if you come and live in the u.k. you don't have high b.p. any more😊 Problem solved!

Jeff 1943 when I have a spike the highest it went was 200/105 and I feel really crook with it , really off balance , lightheaded , weak legs and feel as I want to vomit . Yer mine can go from 112 to 125, 132, 159 or 170 but when it goes right up it scares the hell out of me

Jodz, Jeff1943 is absolutely correct in that there are right ways to take b/p which can make a difference. I did the blood pressure readings at the fire stations on Saturdays. I have the person sit for 10 min. place both feet on the floor, do not cross ankle or legs, arm rested on a table height of the heart and then take it. People normally do not feel it when they have high blood pressure that's why it's called the "silent killer".

A lot of what we are feeling is our sensitivity to any changes in our body including the ups and downs of b/p. (which like Jeff stated is always fluctuating).

I have had the spikes you are referring too. I am also on blood pressure medication but the spikes break right through. It is not harmful if it doesn't happen all the time. If you monitor your b/p you will notice that when you are feeling relaxed, the readings are not only good but sometimes low. So raising your b/p medication for those occasional moments of high readings doesn't make sense.

What I do is use (once again) YouTube and type in Meditation for High B/P readings but any audio meditation would work. I once posted how I brought down my pressure to a low reading just by meditating. Another thing is watching your salt intake. Especially when readings get high and you are on b/p meds. Drink plenty of water during the day keeping yourself hydrated as well as washing the system of too much salt intake.

I may have normal Systolic reading (top number) and yet a high Diastolic (low number) reading when I am tense or anxious. It can come up 125 over 97. That means your blood vessels are tense and it's time to get yourself to relax. All in all Jodz, unless you are experiencing high readings all the time, try not to worry.x

Thanx Angora 1 that's what I have to realise that it's temporary . But my main reason it upsets me and I get worried is it's makes me feel so crook . But this obviously must be some type of panic/anxiety attack ? I really feel crook and just terrible when it happens and off course I worry .

I have downloaded some meditation videos of you tube . And I drink lots of water I always have . πŸ˜€

Jodz, it definitely is a sign of anxiety. Mine usually happens before going to the dentist or doctor appointment. Once I'm there, my b/p measures normal. It's the anticipation of something we fear or really don't want to do. It's usually short lived. I do try to watch my salt intake since that seems to play a part in elevated b/p for me.

Jodx, you do realise that blood pressure isn't constant, it's changing all the time as you move about, sit down, stand up, eat, drink, receive news of some PROBLEM, visit the toilet, the list is endless. Nobody's b.p. is constant for long. For the purpose of comparison medical b.p. depends on you sitting down for 5 minutes, not having eaten or drunk anything, arm outstretched and supported at the same level as your heart. And many medics also say take 3 readings 3 minutes apart and divide by 3 to get an average - then you get an accurate and meaningful reading,
