If serc works for dizziness does that mean I do have bppv?

Or could it help inner ears that have become hypersensitive due to stress?

What is serc? I started off with vertigo about month ago and now have annoying dizziness when I lie down. I can't sleep flat. I have subsequently freaked myself out and made it worse. At times when my anxiety is very bad, I get really off balance. The more you notice it the worse it becomes. I also know that during the spring my dizziness gets worse and I think it has to be fluid in my ears. Whatever you do, don't google anything, it will only make you feel worse. I would say, if something stops the dizziness that is good sign. Hope you feel better.

Serc is a betahistamine. They don't prescribe it in the states because they consider it a placebo. I went to the hospital last night and got a CT scan, all normal. So for me it's either, stress which causes the ear to be hypersensative or bppv (positional vertigo). I don't think I have Meniere's disease.

Sacolucci, it is very possible that on going stress and anxiety can cause an imbalance in the ear fluid by the muscles in the ear canal being tight. Just as the chest wall muscles and every other muscle in our body tenses up with stress, so do the muscles in the inner ear. I know, I had experienced that as well. Knowing what caused it helped reduce the fear of something worse being wrong.

I would use hot towels on my face near the jaw line and ears to help calm down the tightened muscles. It has since gone away but to this day if I get overly stressed, my ears seem to block up and feel dizzy and I know it's time to relax and allow my head muscles to calm down. Feel better x

Agora, today I just tried the eply maneuver, I had nystagmus and then when I finished I had a full blown vertigo attack sitting up like i have never experienced before!

Sacolucci, oh I am so terribly sorry. I had it done once in the ER and I kept fighting them on it and so was given something to calm down and it finally went away. Vertigo is the worse feeling ever. I hope the feeling settles down soon. Let us know. x

I will let you know. It must be positional vertigo since it happened after the eply. I am so scared now it's menieres or MS or something

Sacolucci, Try not to let your mind be overtaken by negative thoughts. The wondering of what it may be will only cause more stress. Give your worries and concerns to your doctor and allow him to make a diagnosis.

A doctor once told me to do that. It felt good in giving up my fears and letting him (a professional) take over. x

Thank you. I feel better now that the ER doctor explained that without a doubt I am going through positional vertigo. I have to work in the epley manoeuvre 3x a day until its gone. It just bothers me that for the 2 months i thought the dizziness attacks were anxiety, i could have tried to treat it sooner. It has gotten worse now where I feel off all day.

Sacolucci, I'm glad you finally know what is causing your dizziness but am sorry you suffered for 2 months needlessly.

This is where anxiety can become so confusing. We can only comment on our own experiences but it takes a doctor to do the final diagnosis.

Good Luck in getting better each day.

Thanks. Strangely, about 50% of people who suffer from anxiety get BPPV. And more people who have anxiety are prone to getting it under the age of 60. One doctor, I found online said that stress and hypersensitivity can cause BPPV and only when the stress is relieved will the symptoms subside.

That's the irony of it all. Anxiety symptoms can present like other health issues and vice versa. The problem being that being anxious always makes it worse.
