I had social anxiety for 30 years and went to psychiatrists for help and they helped some. Most of their help was in giving tranquilizers of all types. They helped but in order for them to keep helping you have to use more and more until to get addicted. I finally had to go to rehab facility to get off all the meds. This took about 6 months but then I was introduced to a psychologist and was taught Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It was a very effective therapy when you actually practice the principles. It's not an easy therapy but and effective on when you actually learn how to defeat you fears . I was a scientist for 30 years and have doctorate in Microbiology and after retirement I studied Psychology and worked in the field for about 15 years before retiring. I Specialized in the treatment of Anxiety disorders.
