Does anyone have any advice to overcome this or maybe make it a bit better? When I am home alone I am always so afraid to go outside my home and no matter what I do it doesnt shift :(. Has anyone found self-help books to work?

Hello

You say when you are home alone you are afraid to go out are you ok when someone else is with you ?

I was thinking if you are ok when someone else is with you maybe you could start by just letting them go slightly in front of you and build it up if you know what I mean

When you are on your own and to afraid then just take it really slow for instance not sure if you live in a house but just walking to the garden gate , staying there a few minutes then coming back in , then when that is feeling ok maybe going through the garden gate and same again staying there a few minutes and back in until you maybe able to get to the top of the street and back again , I think we have to set little goals with this taking it slow but trying to stick with them and praising ourselves with every achievement we make as when you really do suffer with agoraphobia it can be crippling for the person suffering so every small step needs to be recognized and praised :-)

Never read any books on it but I suffer to , have done for years and ok I don't get out and about like others do and not easily but I have goals I set myself , not easy at times but I have achieved more in the last couple of years than I was doing which can only be good

I do ask myself what is the worse that can happen and to be honest maybe a panic attack is the reply but that won't kill me and I have to remember that

I think as well for me suffering so long it becomes a habit not leaving the door which slowly I am trying to break as it is less effort and so much easier me staying in because that is what I have got used to , but I do feel if you have been suffering a long while you can overcome this but in your own time as long as you make small progress which I believe we can do :-)

I still get very anxious when I am with someone else but its not as bad as when I am home alone. Its strange though because when I am at my parents I can walk my dog alone and feel no anxiety at all, yet when I am in my own home I feel nothing but fear.

Claire Weekes Agoraphobia, was my bible. I think you may get it on Abe Books or try Amazon.I was scared to go out terrified to stay in . I never thought I would ever be ok again. Please believe me you will get better . I used to go on holiday for my families sake so scared I was crying , clutching my Claire Weekes book. One day or one hour at a time .  You will look back on this time in years to come and be stronger because of this horrid phase in your life.

Hi corsaUMM,   I didn't know that Claire Weekes wrote a book on Agoraphobia.   Thank you for posting about it.  I'll take a look on Amazon.

Take care  x
