Psychiatrist Tomorrow...Any Help?

I am going to meet with the Psychiatrist tomorrow. I am so nervous and petrified! My anxiety this week has been managable again thank god but this isnt making it any better. I still get overwhelmed going to the store and the thought of leaving home. But I am making it. What should I expect tomorrrow? Has anyone else seen one? Were they helpful? It will be an intake and actual appointment..

I have seen a couple. Try to really fet the ball rolling though. The ones ive seen are trying to drag things on to get more money. Talk about as much as possible during your appointment. Maximize your time. It may help though. Try it and see how you feel. :)) good luck

Hello

Not sure if you will have been yet but I would say firstly don't worry they are there to help and just be honest , they will ask you lot's of questions I would imagine so they can get a good idea the best way to treat you , it is always daunting but hopefully after this first appointment you will see there is nothing to be afraid of they are human's just like us :-/

Good Luck :-)

Take Care x

A psychiatrist will assess your condition and usually suggest medication-- which will most certainly have to be changed and modified to get it right. Make sure the dr is some one you trust, feel comfortable and can work with long term. Drs need to be changed as much as meds sometimes!

Give it a few appointments before deciding if this is a good psychiatrist for you. It takes a little while to get to know each other. That's not a waste of time, just a necessary step. Does he or she really listen to you? Does he remember what you've talked about? Take any notes? Seem to be on your side and wants what's best for you? Takes your past experiences with any medicines seriously? All of these questions are important ones to have answers to.

The Dr. is just another person, not some superior being to be afraid of, who should care about what's best for you and make you a part of your treatment. He should discuss with you what drugs he wants to put you on and describe any possible problems and when to expect them to work and some possible side effects. You should be a team.

I hope all goes well for you and you will be feeling better in the near future.

It is a holistic psychiatrist so I am nervous. I dont really know what they do or if it will be right for me. I will give it a try, I just have to think of my health first.
