Another bad night: Just woke up with racing... - Anxiety Support
Another bad night
dont be scared hun. Just think of it as "ok ive dealt with this before IT WILL GO AWAY" i know hard to do but you will be ok. Dont feed the anxiety you will be ok.
1st tip - STOP GOOGLING! You are having an anxiety attack that will subside. Google will not give u any other advice and will just feed your anxiety making it worse.
I wake up often during the night, I noticed that grabbing the phone and googling in the middle of the night causes more stress. The light from the phone isn't very relaxing either. Try to self calm, or a calming routine, go to the bathroom, the kitchen to get water, back to bed and sit and breathe. Somebody posted on here about humming, as silly as it sounds I decided to "replace" my racing mind thoughts with humming, I didn't hum out loud but calmly in my head. I hope you have better nights
Thankyou guys,
I'm just finding it very difficult to relate physical symptoms with anxiety. How can something mental have such an impact on your body? I don't FEEL anxious and I dont FEEL depressed...but i do FEEL lightheaded and i do FEEL my heart racing.. I just dont understand it
It's all a part of the game the anxiety bully plays with us. I guess anxiety feels it needs to play with more than our mind by giving us physical symptoms as well. The lightheadedness is from us breathing fast when we are scared. Our hearts racing are caused by the adrenaline going wild. When this happens to me, I try to walk/pace whatever it takes, going up steps and down again, to use up that extra adrenaline.
After all, in earlier history, this adrenaline was a way for us to fight for survival. Now a days, we tend to sit or lie in bed while this is happening to us. It makes sense, the fight or flight response needs for us to move our muscles. Using calming techniques is good but is harder to do when under extreme panic. Never the less, still try it, that will
calm down the breathing and take care of the lightheadedness. I hope this helps in some small way. Take care...
