Blacking out...

I've been having these odd episodes... When I've been going to bed, waking up in the middle of the night to a racing heart/tight chest but what freaks me out is ill then get that feeling you get just before you black out/pass out but I never actually do? It never lasts long.

Anybody else has this linked to anxiety?

I've been having a lot of problems with my chest recently.. But I've had ECGs... Chest X-rays...Blood tests... Blood pressure tests and my GP has listened to my heart

Help?

Hi sorry you feel that way but it's all link to anxiety when it first happen to me I felt this feeling came over my body like if I'm going to die my knees got weak I was frightened heart was racing that I can actually hear it I was trembling light headed upset stomach passing a lot of air belching one after the next it used to came on every evening just hated that feeling and it felt like my one is in the world went to the doctor got thyroid blood tests done to see if was my thyroid acting up results came back it was ok the doctor give some pills for my anxiety I took them when ever the feeling came on and to tell the truth I did felt good but that only dealt with the symptoms but the underlying problem was still there so I took myself off the pills and started watching movies that made me laugh did some exercise and do things that made me happy as the doctor told me I did some research on it after I read about it I got to understand it better and try not to think about it once you know what it is and what it is all about you get to feel lest frighten once it comes on you have to let it take its process until it passes just focus on things that makes you happy and you can buy a tea called chamomlile relaxing tea only take it at nights before you go to bed and if your tummy feel bloaty just buy ginger tea with lemon it helps with the gas and bloatiness I hope. You feel much better and info did help you a lot just do some research on it and tell me about it

The "dying" feeling

I got this all the time and I used to break down in tears. It's normal with any mental stress. It's incredibly frightening....but not dangerous at all. It's as if you're stopping yourself from dying...that's the only feeling I could describe it when I went to my doctor.

I had this episode when I was on an ecg machine...there were no changes in my heart activity...which is good and proves...it's just the mind :)

in reply tohinhan07

Your lucky. For me when i had this espisode it showed on my ecg and palpitations scary... They needes to put me on a heart palpitations monitor from my heart racing and the dying feeling on the ecg

hinhan07

When I had my holter monitor (24 hour ecg)

My results came back as (heart in good shape...valves in working order...no need for further tests)

Traces of tyrachtica (that is not the proper spelling of it) and ectopic beats. But it means very fast heart rate. Not dangerous it just means fast along with palpalpitations. That's anxiety. They do not cause any harm. Ectopic beat do not mess with your heart rhythm. There will be nothing sinister going on...it's anxiety...your heart reacts to anxiety.

When I was in A&E the woman said to me....I've worked here for 25 years and do you want to know how many people have been diagnosed with a heart problem? 4 ...that's not many people at all....out of all the people that visit there every day.

I guess its trying to find what triggers it all...

Do you get chest pain with your fast heart though? I do and it feels like its under my armpit at times (left side) I think thats why I get so panicky about it. I also suffer from feeling like a choke on everything I eat! This drives me mad... my lightheadedness is the worst I'd say, I haven't gone a day in cant remember how long where I havent felt lightheaded.

Do ECGs show if anything is wrong with your heart? Ive had 3 of these now and 2 chest x rays xx

I got chest pains all of the time...and also the feeling of someone or a heavy weight laying on my chest. It was overwhelmingly crushing. And the fast heart was accompanied by pains and the flutters were so painful.

I don't know if you have seen the movie "me, myself and irene" but there's a scene where he chokes when trying to swallow a tablet....I swear to god...that's what I was like trying to eat anything.

The lightheadedness is part and parcel of anxiety :( it sucks !

I can guarantee you...an ecg can pick up your heart health. On the top

10 health checks that could save your life...ecg came in at number two.

An ecg can also pick up if you have had any previous damage to your heart.

My auntie has A fib....she was diagnosed that through only a stethoscope. (Ps...don't google A Fib....you do not have that)

If there was anything....they would pick it up straight away.

Then I will just try and come to terms with the fact I have health anxiety, I don't want to be put onto medication though. I have nothing against people that do, but I think it just hides the underlining problems... how do you deal with it?

It's hard to accept isint it. My brother also had health anxiety (it's so common) he fainted afew times. He fainted because his body was getting back to normal. The human body is actually quite amazing. If your hearts racing and your breathing is out of control...it will shut itself down to put your heart rate back to normal as well as your breathing....and then you'll wake up.

I'm thankfully over it now. I ignored my symptoms. If my heart started racing...I had a shower. As time went on...the symptoms....dissapeared. it's so strange. Xxx

Do you know what triggered your anxiety?

Is that all you done? just ignored it?? I try to do that, the lightheadedness is the worst I think, because I could be standing up cooking and I'll feel so dizzy that I'll just give up. I want to get back on track with my diet and fitness but I'm scared to exercise... like it will mess with my heart, or ill faint due to my lightheadedness...

I do know what triggered it.

I don't really want to say on here...but I will....I just don't want to heighten anyone's anxiety.

Basically I was working and my friend passed away infront of me. I didn't know what to do. Sometimes I blame myself. And basically he passed away due to a heart condition that he was born with...he never knew he had it.

Now anyone reading this before you go into blind panic...it was a condition that would of been picked up with a simple ecg. He never ever had an ecg....because he never had any symptoms.

People think that with anxiety because they are getting weird heart activity then there must be something wrong with their heart.

Heart problems a lot of the time don't show any symptoms and that's why people don't get checked out.

A simple ecg would have saved his life.

I've probably scared the life out of everyone reading this ...please don't be scared. I am just being honest as to how I got health anxiety.

The bottom line is...if he had an ecg...he'd still be here.

That is a very vaild reason to have anxiety! And its true alot of heart dieases never show!

So just ignored all your anxiety and it just went away on it's own? I hope mine does this!!! :(

It's frustrating. Very frustrating. A chest x ray can also show any blockagesnear the heart. You're heart is 100% fine.

I did ignore them...it was like staring down an insidious demon every day. It was hard but it worked.

Dizzieness is hard to ignore. But if you put your mind to it...you can ignore it. XXxX

Ecg or ekg? I had 3 ekg's the one where it reads your heartbeat and displays it on that paper with the lines? Or ecg like the one they use to look at unborn babies?

Hi, i have this problem almost every night. Just as i want to fall asleep i jolt awake feeling like my heart is about to fail or stop. It scares the hell out of me. Been to hospital 3 times for ekg, urime amd blood test amd they say im fine. Anybody else has this feeling, please respond to me...

hinhan07 profile image
hinhan07 in reply toJakkalss

I got it all the time...even when awake during the day. I can promise you now....your heart won't stop. It's simply the way your brain reacts. It lies to you. Makes you feel like you're dying when you're not.

Ecg and ekgs are pretty much the same thing.

If all your tests have came back fine...you will be absolutely fine :)

I know...it's friken terrifying. Big hugs xx
