Please help : I went doctors they done my... - Anxiety Support
Please help
Pulse went down to 96
Hi. Dont worry about those figures - they are within a normal range - in fact they are very similar to my own stats. 98 for oxygen is excellent - nothing to worry about there. As for your heart rate - it will go up and down according to what you are doing or feeling at any one time.
It sounds to me like you have health anxiety and possibly ocd. I am sure you know that health anxiety will cause you to believe that there is something wrong with your health and that the doctors have missed it. It is good that your blood is being looked at - any major illness will show in your blood, so if that is ok then you can relax.
Thanks so much but I got mixed up its 146/95 it's horrible I know I think it's health anxiety but what is ocd I hate all this think something gonna happen so is my blood pressure really ok I can't handle this thinking something gonna happen xxxx
Hi Karl, I still have a fluttery heart and wore a 24 hour monitor in November - neither myself or my doctor has had the result. They did say at hospital if anything untoward they would be in touch within a couple of days. Some days I feel like I'm getting better and the last 2 days have been bad! Not sure the meds work for me!
I think it took me almost a month to get the result of my heart monitor - and even then I only found out because i saw a letter to another doctor about me. I think that if they had found anything you would have been called in within a few days. In this case no news is good news
With anxiety you will have good days and bad days - that is the way it goes I am afraid. As for your medication - for some people it will take a few days to become fully effective. If you are still not happy in a few days time then go to your doctor and ask about the dosage level - it might need to be adjusted a little.
Thank you for your reply Karl, how are things with you today?
I am ok thank you - had my therapy appointment today and also a cardiac assessment. Heart is still a bit weak but much better than it was - so quite happy about that
Please some one help me about it being like that x
ocd is OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER.It is part of an anxiety disorder and concerns having obsessive thoughts or performing ritualistic habits - for example when you leave your house to go out you might check the door is locked by locking and unlocking it a certain number of times, or by obsessively counting things you might see around you, or by washing your hands a certain number of times before you feel they are clean. Its about performing routines and rituals over and over again, or having certain thoughts over and over again. Health anxiety and ocd are very closely linked.
I do that all the time but my health anxiety is really scaring me it's horrible why is my blood pressure that high tho am worried now I was fine till I seen him xx
Well, it is not surprising your blood pressure goes up like that - you have health anxiety. Any kind of stress will result in your blood pressure going up. It only becomes worrying if you maintain an abnormally high blood pressure. But even then there are very effective drugs that control hypertension if your doctor feels that is necessary. So no need to worry about it so much. With health anxiety and ocd you are going to worry about a lot of things - that is what this illness does to you.
So do you think I have nothing to panic about they wanted me to starte propanolo a few weeks ago but I don't want to an scared I hate taking tablets xx
The honest answer is I think you have a lot of anxiety attacks and you will worry about things when there is really nothing to worry about. That is what happens with this illness. As for the medication they want you to take - it is designed to help your heart become calmer - it is called a beta blocker and makes your heart rate slow down a bit. The doctor will only give you that if you need it, so maybe just try it and see if it helps. If you decide you dont like it after that then speak with the doctor about it. You certainl dont have to take any medication you dont want. But this medication is about slowing your heart down so that you feel less anxiety.
Thanks so much for Charing with me xx
You are very welcome my friend
Have you had anxiety for a while and are you on any medication if you don't mind me asking xx
I dont mind you asking at all. In normal times I am a therapist and my partner is a medical doctor, so I am more interested in using therapy for dealing with anxiety. However, I do accept that some people need short term medication sometimes to help with their anxiety. I do still get attacks of anxiety - they are much like most other peoples anxiety like feeling I am about to die or have a serious illness. But to be honest they are far fewer than they used to be, and I make sure that I have my various techniques to help deal with that - as well as having my own therapist. In my case, I am lucky that I had access to therapy immediately and also have a medical person so close to me all the time.
At least you got someone there to reassure you why is anxiety like this do you have any ideas I can use I am really struggling keep getting like chest discomfort as well xx
Usually that has to do with your breathing - hyperventilation, or rapid shallow breathing will lead to discomfort and pain in your chest. You need to control your breathing. If you can download free apps then this one will help you breathe
play.google.com/store/apps/...
Anxiety/panic attacks are made worse by hyperventilation - so if you can use this app to control your breathing it will really help you.
Thanks so much it feels like I been winded it's horrible you have been brill giving advice tho x
You are very welcome x
sounds like you may be dealing with "white coat" hypertension. apparently with some people a visit to the doctor (white coats) can make them feel very tense and nervous which causes spikes in their blood pressure...and that makes the blood pressure reading at the doctors office higher than it normally is. if you are very concerned about your BP then i would recommend you monitor it at home with a BP device you can buy for home use. if you do this its always a good idea to educate yourself about BP readings. dont just go by what the charts tell you.
Thanks for your reply I had a 24 hour bp done a couple of months ago they said that was fine so I don't know am confused x
if the 24 hour bp monitoring came out good then i would say you have little to worry about. easy for me to say right? hehe. yes i know its in our nature as anxiety sufferers to worry even when theres really nothing to worry about. i do it alot. if your bp worries you then why not take steps that will help you maintain a healthy bp? that way you can take all that worrying and turn it into motivation to keep your heart and arteries healthy. read about what foods to avoid and what foods will be good for your heart.
