I was driving with my friend and suddenly smelled a strong gas smell. My first thought was carbon monoxide and I felt like I was going to faint. He said that he felt fine. Ahhhh. I started shaking too. Has this happened to anyone?

Worried about a smell
gas is a pretty strong smell and i have some outside that i get a wiff of also...so yeah sometimes i smell things and quesiton myself if they really are there...gas combustion is whats going to create the bi-product of carbon dioxide...not the gasoline smell...dont worry and relax.
I had something similar a fee years ago. I was at home and though I could see gas but no one else could in the end I had to go and buy a Co monitor and put it above the bed so I could relax and sleep I think that was my first ever panic attack. So you are not alone.
I also believe all our senses are heightened smell, sound, taste, sight this comes from being in a high anxiety state but that information can also be confusing and misunderstood in that state of mind.
You wouldn't smell carbon dioxide. What to do in this case (one idea!) is to call the fire department and explain your worry to them... they will be GLAD to check it out for you and no, it should not cost anything. Good luck!
You are right, Katie!
