Hi McKay,
For me Mindfulness meditation and gentle yoga have been invaluable. I would also recommend CBT. It can give you new thinking skills and, with right therapist, provide fantastic support.
Be kind to yourself. You're doing the best you can with what you have right here and now. This situation will and can change.
Good luck with it all
Thank you so much
Hope you're finding your way through all this. It's been a real case of baby steps for me, then one day you look back and realise you've come on miles!
Sometimes the worst days are the days you actually do the best. On those days, just one small act of kindness or health towards yourself is really powerful. Keep heart!
I would recommend the website or books created by Paul David - At Last a Life. Having successfully managed his own anxiety he discusses how to manage negative thoughts. Have a look at his website/blog, lots of advice there without buying a book. No fighting with thoughts is the way forward, he'd advise, it's the way you respond to thoughts that makes the difference on how they impact on anxiety. I wish you well.
Hyperventilation responds very well to mindfulness. I dismissed it for a couple of years until I finally tried it and it actually provides relief to the current episode rather quickly. The more you practice, the bigger impact it will have.
As far as morning negative thoughts....I wish I had suggestions., Mornings are the hardest for me. I usually lie in bed for 10 minutes after the alarm goes off just willing myself to get up and face what the day throws at me.
