Does anyone have a fear of going for an operation and never coming back again. A friend of mine went in for a hysterectomy and never came out . I have to go for an umbilical hernia operation and now im so scared to go for the operation and the anaesthetic. What will put my mind at ease. Can anyone feel what i am feeling.

Well of course! I think any human would think about that. Very normal. You will be fine. If you have researched your doctor, seems like a common procedure, you will be fine. You have your friend on your mind. That was her story. Try not to worry. Best wishes.

Hi .I have had two of those ops within two years .Being 60 I was a bit anxious too but had complete faith in my surgeon. Please try not to worry ,I'm sure you will be fine.

Hello

I can have upwards of two sedation a year and I find it quite relaxing. There is a risk although very low.

I had an operation done several years ago and I was given a relaxant on the Ward before I went down to Theatre. When you go into a side room they give a sedative and then gas, the whole process is calm and peaceful as you are wheeled into the Theatre.

You generally know nothing until you are on a recovery ward. You will be taken back to the ward and possibly given a piece of toast and a cup of tea.

Every thing we do has a risk, although these days the risks are very measured and every time I have been through the system all has been fine, so please do not worry.

The last procedures I had was a sedation for dentistry and another one for a medical test two months ago and I am still here. Now I am sixty five and as mentioned before have been banged out now since I was thirty eight.

Your friend was just very unfortunate, so do not worry

I had inguinal hernia repair surgery 3 days ago with general anesthesia and was fine. I went home same day... Hernia repairs are very minor procedures and is one of the most common surgeries done worldwide. In fact hundreds of hernia repairs are done daily worldwide. The only thing I hated about the surgery was howvthe anesthesia made me feel but was out in no time. You will be okay, pray and have faith before u go in. Itrs minor and the doctors know what there doing. Hysterectomies arre major operations really... But you will be okay and more than likely leave same day. I am currently in recovery now.
