Yes! I suffer from sinus problems a lot and often my nose blocks without me realising. That makes me feel breathless which in turns brings on the anxiety.
If it helps any, your reaction is not uncommon at all.... I have gone through this quite a number of times and if I 'concentrate' on it...it just makes it worse... Simple as it sounds, I would just tell myself "Well Ok... you can breathe in PLENTY of air through your mouth".... and it never failed to help me. A trick that helps a bit (I think) is to slow down your breathing...breathe in through the mouth and then purse your lips into a 'whistle like' position and blow the breath out gently in that manner... A Dr taught me that. Good luck to you... you WILL be ok!
Thanks guys ! Yea I really try to tell myself that I'm okay and that I can breath. Its a learning process.
Jean32, Anxiety is (I guess) a reflex action to heighten our senses when in times of danger or threatened. It helps us do things at greater speeds. However a lot of that can actually scare you and in turn fuel your anxiety in a chain reaction. The key is to understand that it is happening to help you, and not to scare you. Just breath it out, and I am sure it should help......
Cheers..
Yes, yes, yes! Then I check to see if I'm breathing out of my nose still
