Shallow breathing

Does anyone experience shallow breathing when waking up? I have been having some issues with acid reflux as well. To my understanding, the acid reflux can cause the uncomfortabke/shallow breathing.

I have recently realized that I shallow breath at times. I also once did it on purpose to see what would happen and the feelings I got were the weird feelings I have been complaining about so I have started to do breathing exercises when ever I notice it, it helps. I have not had acid reflux but many anxiety sufferers complain of that symptom.

When I obsess over the thought of my breathing being shallow, it seems to stay most of the day and intensify then get better and it just goes in a cycle. However, the past few days have been good. I have been trying to incorporate relaxation techniques and instead of being on my phone in bed, I will put a cartoon on, read, or do word searches. I am a healthy 20 year old girl. I regularly workout, but I could work on my eating habits. I also notice if I eat junk food more than one day in a row, my symptoms of acid reflux act up.

I have just been doing some reading on hyperventilation syndrome today and I'm starting to think that this is most likely happening to a large percentage of anxiety sufferers have a Google and see what you think

I will take a look into it. Thank you

Yep! it really seems to create this weird tension in the diaphragm—I would never have linked it to a stomach issue UNTIL... I ended up with brutal stomach cramping that took me to the hospital...once they gave me the heavy duty anti acids it cleared up quickly and I did not have to continue taking any pills for it long term. I did have to change my diet a bit becasue there were 3 specific things I was eating regularly that set it off.

It was a pretty great outcome. it only came back once (nowhere near as seriously) and I took one pill and everything was fine again.

I can look up the type of pills if that info is helpful to you. It was not an over the counter medication....something good to try first that's easy to get is Zantac, but it may not be enough. Stay away from any of the Tums/Pepto "candy" type antacid products.

That's good advice =)

What was setting your acid reflux off?

V8 Juice (or pretty much any processed tomato sauce type stuff), Siracha hot sauce (My hubby makes this ridiculously spicy dish he calls "Lava Chicken"), and those spicy ramen/noodle bowls that are so bad for you anyway. It's not a huge loss, except for the Lava Chicken ;).

Some people are triggered by fried foods and fats, not so much for me.

Interesting. I actually do not drink any of that. I think its more if I eat a lot in one sitting. Also, sometimes I randomly get heartburn if I haven't eaten in a while.
