Can the breathing with anxiety last 6months all day everyday without going 24/7

Basically went to the hospital about 2months ago had a chest X-ray that’s come back all clear and they’ve listened to my chest and that’s all clear but have shallow breathing constantly for 6months just wondering if it can last this long all day everyday I’m worried it was a blood clot or lung cancer but that would show up on the X-ray wouldn’t it

Globus Hystericus: fairly common symptom of anxiety.

Yeah that can happen under certain conditions. For instance, if you have asthma, which I had at age 30. I swam since I was kid and my lungs were super strong so when I got the diagnosis I was surprised as heck.

Another could be you are being repeatedly exposed to an agent that is constantly irritating your lungs (environmental issue). That also happened to me. Turned out a girl I worked with back in college was wearing a specific perfume that turns out was aggravating my lungs. Once she changed it my cough vanished then worn it again it started up. She noticed it first so we tested it and sure enough that was the cause. Other perfumes she wore didn't do it to me, just that one particular one so she stopped wearing it around me.

Just two things that happened. I'm sure there could be other causes. Your doctor really should help you figure things out though. Hope you track it down.

I’ve had an X-ray and it’s come back all clear

in reply toLeebowles98

I am not a doctor just know what's happened to me. X-rays will not reveal everything. My asthma and another weird gurgling in my lungs both were separate issues on different dates years apart. I learned X-rays do not find everything. Asthma is unique as it's almost like the body's reflex and like an over reaction sorta like a muscle twitch which isn't going to show on an X-ray. I highly recommend talking to your Medical doctor that has the diagnostic tools and experience to track it down. Just for your peace of mind.

Like wise it's important to calm your mind with mediation and/or other coping skills just so your anxiety doesn't influence your results. I know from my experience that my panic attacks have actually caused shortness of breath. It's a given fact that your mind and body are connected and do influence each other. My thoughts have often aggravated my symptoms and having done Dialectic Behavioral Therapy exercises have cleared or diminished symptoms I have had with my Asthma.

I made an assumption that you know what Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is. If you don't, it's a treatment for changing negative thoughts to treat various mental health conditions which has been proven to help manage NOT cure my anxiety. It relieves my tension by exercising my brain in the same way fitness training exercises my body. They compliment each other so well.

Should you ever want to chat directly when your anxiety is driving you up the walls feel free to chat me up any time. Talking is also a technique used in DBT as is posting to this site for help. I know I've done it many times to bring down my anxiety and in turn clear away some symptoms I have affecting my body aches, breathing, pain, etc. Just some things to think about. Cheers Man.

It can reveal lung cancer and lung infection tho xrays

in reply toLeebowles98

Yes it can detect those things as they grow large enough to be visible, other things that irritate lungs will not. Which is what happened to me which isn't something not infection related. Of course that doesn't mean it will not become an infection later. Just a thought. Still your best bet is your doctor to get at the root of trouble so none of this happens.

I hope you've made some progress on this issue as I know it can be an anxiety trigger making things worse. Cheer man.

What the shallow breathing and tight throat and chest can stay for this long with anxiety

Princesspeach84 profile image
Princesspeach84 in reply toLeebowles98

Yes it will stay as long as you believe it is something bad. Once you take your mind off it and relax it will. If you worry hard enough you can get symptoms such as shortness of breath, rashes, diarrhoea, dizziness etc it’s pretty common. I’ve had endoscopy for my health anxiety as I was convinced I had an ulcer/cancer. After all the tests etc I realised that it was my brain making me feel these symptoms. You can fight this 💪 and you are not alone in doing so.

I thought I had pnuemonia or lung cancer and a blood clot but the X-ray has come back all clear a xray would detect all them problems wouldn’t they

Princesspeach84 profile image
Princesspeach84 in reply toLeebowles98

Yes, I know someone who has had pneumonia and another person who had lung cancer and both were picked up on scans. Drs are trained to pick up abnormalities and know what they are looking for. Anything dodgy and you would know about it.

Princesspeach84 in reply toLeebowles98

Yes they were picked up on xrays. You have had I’m presuming many tests and scans and nothing can be found. This is health anxiety and it’s awful. I take CBD oil which helps 👍

This would have shown all you are worried about. If all came back clear you are fine. Try to get on with your life and not waste it worrying. Try distracting yourself or talk to friends. Keep occupied, I think once you’ve had health anxiety it won’t leave you but you get better at managing it 😊

Can health anxiety stay with you constantly for 6months that’s what I’m trying to say

mrhealthanxiety profile image
mrhealthanxiety in reply toLeebowles98

It can stay for along as you allow it, it’s about addressing it, have you seen someone to address it like we spoke about a few months back ? Also as we have said in the past please read what people reply, as I feel no point asking questions to which someone then replies with an answer for then you to ask them the same thing again. Knowing and speaking to you before I thinks you need to speak to a counsellor etc if you haven’t already.

Hi Lee we began to chat on pm, had alot going on with more tests for a clot for myself. My d dimer is now over 1000 for some reason and I've unbelievable pains in my right leg which were believed to be a clot. I had an ultrasound on my leg and my chest and they couldn't find a clot. I was told by the A&E Dr that an xray won't show a clot. And the ultrasound doppler is the best reliant way. I've convinced myself chronic that I had a clot in my leg to be told its all clear and if you have a clot there will be swelling, redness and the area will feel extremely hot which I don't have any of these. My anxiety has been that unbearable I referred myself for cbt therapy! One thing I can recommend is the headspace app, or the catch it app you can recored your anxiety on them and it's a self help journal that helped me massively, your anxiety will linger and fester the longer you believe something is wrong. This is what I have been doing, so I read up and thought it seems like pinched nerve and the Dr has confirmed this for me today. Now I feel like I am getting somewhere I just tell myself to think its a pinched nerve it is not going to kill me. You have to remind yourself that's all it Is. I was just going from day to day thinking yes I've woken up and survived another day that wasn't living my life it was just surviving and that isn't right, it's hard but you got to stop looking for something wrong if everything is clear, ask for an inhaler for your shortness of breath it's helped me massively

I just don’t want to die cause the this breath all the time feels like it’s gonna kill me but it I’ve had this for 5months and it hasn’t killed me yet

Bexuk profile image
Bexuk in reply toLeebowles98

Bit everyday you wake up is another day you haven't died? Is there any part of the day your not thinking about it? If so you'll notice your breathing isn't that bad until you think about it, and you have to tell yourself I know when your in an anxiety attack and it feels like this is it you have to remember it's not it and it's not going to kill you, I find distracting myself just sitting and reading stay off Google its going to always tell you worst case scenarios and you know it isn't that because you've had the tests. Have you looked at things like hayfever or allergies because they can present with the same symptoms, on the really hot days we had recently I took an antihistamine everyday which seemed to help my breathing. Try referring yourself to a therapist for cbt if you can

I know how you feel, but as I said you can't think like that because then you just end up going day to day and that's more tiring using what energy you do have each day in a draining way rather than positively. You have to think there isn't any reason why you won't wake up and there isn't any specific reason why you won't wake up, a friend who is a nurse also told me when I was anxious about a clot you have to not think of it as a bad thing, modern medicine is wonderful nowadays and they can successfully treat clots and people go on to lead normal healthy lives as they once did, I still don't know what is causing my breathing issues but I know my inhaler helps and I did have asthma as a child so I just go with that, sometimes you have to just take that leaf of faith and trust in your gp when they say your fine

Lee, you're asking these questions on an Anxiety and Depression forum. The clue is in the title. Yes, all the breathing sensations you describe are common symptoms of anxiety and they will last until you overcome your anxiety disorder. That may be months or years depending on how quickly you tackle the problem.

Once acquiring anxiety disorder why should you think it should have gone away by now? What have you done to make it go away?

You appear to be young, hardly lung cancer material. You've had medical professionals examine you and x-ray you etc. They have come to the conclusion this is anxiety.

Either believe the medical professionals or spend the foreseeable future trying to find a medical professional who in your eyes isn't incompetent who will diagnose you with the worst fears of your imagination.

My advice: believe the professionals, face the fact that you have anxiety disorder and address the cause not the symptoms.

You can't cure yourself from an illness you don't have no matter how hard you try.

Not what you're looking for?
