Kelnor Birth Control and Anxiety?

Hi everyone! I am sixteen years old and female. I recently have been looking into birth control as a way to manage my acne and difficult periods. I usually get migraines, severe mood swings, an increase in anxiety, and stomach issues right around my period. As a side note, I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder around the age of 15 and started receiving treatment (which has been very successful!!)

I talked to a friend of mine who is a couple of years older than me. She also has anxiety disorder, and uses birth control for acne. She recommended Kelnor birth control to me, because she said that it actually helped her anxiety to become less severe, especially around her periods.

Has anyone ever used Kelnor? I googled "Kelnor anxiety" and of course all I found was pages of horror stories from people who had used it. I am very skeptical about using birth control because I don't want to relapse and become agraphobic again.

Thank you all!

Hi,

Sorry I can't help you on this one, perhaps some of our other members can.

On a positive note, I am so glad you have received help for your anxiety, and I can understand your dilemma.

My granddaughter has just gone on the pill for various reasons, but I don't know which one. I would imagine your hormones are all over the place at the moment, so anything that can help with anxiety must be a plus and yet you suffer migraines, poor you.

Can you not get advice from your G.P. or local clinic.

Eunice xx

Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely talk to my G.P. about it, but I wanted to ask a couple of questions on it first before I dive into a full visit with the doctor. I usually feel pressured to make a decision when I'm in the office haha.

thanks again!

I am not familiar with that particular brand of birth control, but I can say that I was on a generic low dose estrogen for about 10 years. Those were the only 10 years of my adult life that I was practically anxiety free. I began having anxiety attacks at 10, and when I went on the pill at 16 I didn't have another until in my mid-twenties. I did continue to have horrible IBS that entire time so I think it was just manifesting differently. Now that I am off the pill my attacks are severe and also I have a toddler so that adds to the pot. Obviously everyone's anxiety comes from different places and is treated differently, but for me it would be worth it to be on the pill vs an antidepressant just from a side effect standpoint. And speak with your doctor about the different brands of pill out there. Most of the newer designer pills are just marketing gimics.

Thank you. I think it's interesting that some people feel more stable (anxiety-wise) while they are on the pool, but others get worse. I will definitely talk to my doctor about the different ones. You said that your anxiety attacks started in your mid-twenties. I am assuming you were off the pill by then?

Yes once I went off the pill they came back worse than when I was young and having them, but when I was young I didn't have a toddler and a full time job so that may have something to do with it as well ;-)

Well done you for looking so well into this. Sounds like you've an old head on young shoulders. I've heard the pill is good for regulating acne too. It may also sort out the mood swings. Can't help with the latest names tho- I'm an old bird!

Thanks I've been told that a lot haha. :) I hope that the pill does help with acne, and mood swings, if I decide to go on it.
