Hi,I am a psychologist with 40 years experience.
Agoraphobia is an individual state at its worst leading to drug addiction, suicide attempts and other severe difficulties.
It is a sliding scale, the worst being a person who could not leave one room in their house to go out of that door to any other room.
I have been agoraphobic for 16 years,i have no idea why.
Tried all therapies accept E.M.D.R., very difficult.
If i can help anyone, would be glad to,Dr.Joseph Szymanovsky
Hi valentine
I am waiting to see a psychologist
I have always had anxiety , & was addicted to alcohol before I started suffering with agoraphobia , so I seemed to do opposite to the theory that it can lead to addiction , as I suffered with that long before ,, but its been over 20 years now since I last drank & was 10 years after I stopped before I started with the fear of going out , which I believe was triggered from taking ill while I was out
As a psychologist with 40 years of experience , I hope you dont mind me asking , but wouldnt that help you to be able to work out what is happening to you & why & so on , I am hoping when I see a psychologist that is what they will be able to do for me

Hi, thanks for sharing, I have had it for 6years that I know, but maybe longer, I am getting better, I am going to college and forcing myself to go out a little, my phobia started that I can remeber when my father died that was 6 years ago, I have had many deaths in my life, my Mother, I had a miscarriage, and a still birth and now my Dad. It is so silly how I was always a strong woman and never let things get me down and I remember always being the one to try new things and the one that was outgoing, now I can't believe what has happening I fear everything and something I can't see has a hold on me, it tells me what I can and cannot do. I want my life back. I am trying. Blessings Samantha
Hi,how wonderful that you have removed your alcohol addiction,a stupendous achievement. Most psychological and mental health diagnoses are very generalized. Nothing can be better than your own individual truth.
I feel it is a little like a medical doctor getting a bad back,or cancer etc. They have more knowledge and methods though often this knowledge can sometimes cloud a simple truth!!!
I am afraid a psychologist is more like an interior designer, they know a lot,but if not on your 'wavelength' they can be useless or worse!
Oh dear
I hope not , after years of suffering & trying so many things , I had really got my hopes up that a psychologist will be the best way for me to go , so I do hope when I do get to see one they will be on my wavelength
Yes I can understand what you are saying , I have always thought how doctors cope if they realize something is wrong with them , but you have a point maybe thats what they do cloud over it as you say
Thank you for answering
