Please help burst pipe ?

I know it's off topic but I have a burst pipe under concrete floor in basement. I can't afford a plumber. I've turned water off but hot taps in bathroom are still running, I cant find a water tank anywhere in house. What do I do ?? It's really stressing me out xxx

Hi cookster your water tank in the loft will need to empty. I'm assuming you have an old system like us and not a combo boiler. I would turn hot taps off so you have some hot water as it is separate to the cold water does this help? We had a mare with our system last year xxx

I haven't got a water tank, must be a combo boiler. I have 4 floors, no attic. I've turned main off under the sink and flushed loo but hot water tap in bathroom still running ?

Oh crikey,

You've done the right thing. The hot water system is fine, nothing's leaking there although it will stop when your boiler runs dry. (Eve's right yr tank'll be in the loft or poss above the garage if you have a funny shaped house.) Even at the risk of flood I would put the water back on for a few mins this evening and again in the morning to refill your tanks and every container you can find.

First thing in the morning ring your landlord. The water system is their prob so make them sort it.

Hello Cookster,

Contrary to popular belief you may not have a water tank.I live in a 3 storey victorian house which has direct mains water both hot and cold.As you turn on the hot water tap it ignites the boiler and takes about a minute to heat up.

You obviously have done the right thing in turning the water off.As fadedlizard says it's the landlords problem.

PS Because we are on direct mains we have three stop cocks.One in the kitchen for the cold water,One in the bathroom for the hot water and a massive one in the basement which turns the whole lot off,

What happened ,everyone had a different answer,I would have ran screaming,that is one of my anxiety worries,and blocked drains,LEAKING DRAINS,(omg, even writing it down,I can't say it)Electrcity blowing! Never admitted this before,hard to write but,roof falling in,floor collapsing,there are lots more but on of the worst is,smells,obsessed with smells,no one else can smell them,I now never,never mention them and what did my daughter do today?came for a short passing visit,went to put something in my bin which is kept under my sink and said"Mum,you will need to empty the bin,there is a smell under your sink,showed her the bin was clean.Lovely sunny day here,I have spent the day scrubbing and cleaning under the sink,Still smelling a fishy smell!!!
