Any Info on Propanolol?

Had a good day yesterday and felt great. Felt as if the sun was shining (it was pouring but you get the drift), birds were singing flowers were springing etc. Back to normal this morning. YUK!

Anyway... I Went to my Dr this morning who upped my Sertraline to 100mg and gave me some Propanolol which she said can be taken when needed to calm me down. They sounded wonderful from her description, as i can take one before going on site and do my work in relaxed mode instead of being a nervous wreck and trying to hide the fact from my customers. However, having done a web search on them, maybe they're not so great. Has anyone got any experience of these? Is there anything about them I should be wary of? I get migraines which I take Sunaratriptin for when i have one, so is there likely to be any problems. Thanks.

I was given these less than two weeks ago and one week into using them I had to stop taking them as it brought back my asthma which I haven't had any problems with or treated with medication since I was 8 (am now 24) ... But like all mediation it does vary but if you have had or still have asthma these tablets are a big no no.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry you got asthma back. With everything else that's going on that's the last thing you need. My doctor asked me about asthma before prescribing them but didn't ask anything else which is why i am a bit worried about taking them. Take care

Hello tech. I have been on propranolol in the past for hypertension. I was fine on them. I don't know how it will help with your anxiety though. Hope this helps.

Hi Thanks. She's given me 40 tablets and says i can get more when i want so i was wondering what i've let myself in for. At the moment i'll try anything and it's reassuring to know that they can't do very much harm.

I have been taking these for 3 weeks and stopped today as they didn't seem to be doing anything. When I spoke to the DR about them he said that they are not very good for treating anxiety problems and suggested that I would be better off with anti depressants.

I'm already on sertraline but need something to overcome my panic attacks in stressful situations. Before now i've gone into the loos and cried whcih gives a really good impression to people so i'm hoping they might help,

I had them to stop the physical effects of anxiety, they calmed my body down but it didn't help with my mind.

My sister takes them for panic attacks. She says they really work. She only takes them when needed, I.e. in social situations. I want to ask my Gp about them as I suffer from anxiety and have found ssri's make me worse. I'm not sure they will be suitable though as they might help with the physical symptoms they won't help with the worry and thoughts in my mind.

They are 'Beta-blockers' so slow your heart down but didn't help me.

Thanks for your reply. I took one yesterday before going on site and by the time i'd driven over there and discovered the problem they had was different from what i was told, it had kicked in. I t was great. My brain still worked but it was as if I was in a warm cocoon. I could actually think again, talk lucidly, be pleasant and when things didn't work i could think about what to do next instead of panicing and just wanting to get out of there. I don't intend to take them regularly but for the moment i'm a convert.

Just started with propanolol. working wonders at the mo. I don't intend to take them for ever, but I believe you can pop them when you need them. I have slow release tabs and take one at night, but the first was a straightforward 40mg which knocked the pounding heart on the head. watch this space!!

Mine are 40mg too & my Dr told me i can take one when needed rather than having to take them regularly, but I've only been taking them when i know i'm going to be in a stressful situation.

Hi I am on the same meds too, I used to get migraines very frequently and for days, I now take the prop.... Each night and also b12 and b6 and after three months only have one a month and the imigrane works most of the time, stress brings a migraine on for me so taking the beta blocker help me and is proven to reduce migraines as well as panic attacks. Meds have different effects on people so best thing to do is give it a good month and see how you feel. If you get a major side effect get straight back to the doctor xx good luck xx
