Good morning/afternoon/evening 🙂.

I've noticed that i seem to have less anxiety/depression when things aren't calm . As soon as things start to feel "normal" or calm...my anxiety goes up.

.

Obviously I'd prefer it to be the exact opposite, or no anxiety at all 😀, yeah right.

.

Have others gone through this? If you don't feel comfortable replying right here please send me a message, It would definitely help to know I'm not alone.

I am the same way. I grew up in a house with two workaholic parents, who also suffered from undiagnosed anxiety and depression. I often remember their "blow ups", i.e. yelling, physical abuse, etc. - being the worst on Sunday afternoons. This was the one time a day none of the kids had activities, no church, no school, etc. And the open time really floored them. And I still carry this forward. I'm very recent in this journey, and I still have a lot to work through, but meditation and "presence" are really helpful for me to enjoy "nothing". I've started keeping my phone away from the dinner table with my family so I can be fully present with them. And a daily meditation exercise, either through an app or just a breathing exercise, can help train your body to be comfortable with the open space. My only caution (and this is something I'm struggling with, maybe you do too) - sometimes the emotion you're feeling in that moment is anxiety, or maybe depression, or something that is a bit uncomfortable. Even after a meditation, sometimes I'm still feeling anxious. And I'm learning to be comfortable with that feeling vs. chasing it away. It's really hard. I struggle with this a lot. You're not alone. Good luck on the journey and let me know if you learn any good tips!

My therapist recommended Waking Up, which is hosted by Sam Harris. It does cost money, but the daily meditations and coursework is very very good. I’ve heard Headspace is also good. There are some free ones too, plus stuff on YouTube, but I highly recommend Waking Up if you can afford it.
