Overcomeing childhood neglect/abuse

Hello everyone! I am new to the group and elated to be here. I'm curious of how others navigate life after being abused and/or neglected as a child. The anxiety and depression I've encountered have their own heartbeats, they are their own living entities in my every day life.

What tools/practices work(ed) for you?

I started my self healing journey about 4 years ago, but have difficulty finding a therapist that's a fit for me. I want to get down to the rawness of healing, not just a bunch of talk therapy. (Hypnosis, psychotherapy, EMDR, MDMA assisted therapy, etc. - I'll try anything, but not sure what will be helpful). What I'm learning in my therapy sessions has already been taught to me in the books I read, the educational podcasts I listen to. I found ADAA through work and am thankful I did. I've searched for group therapies to no avail in my area.

Thanks in advance for any tips and sharing of your stories :)

Hello! I understand where you are coming from around talk therapy. For me, talking about the abuse I endured didn't help. Talking about it didn't make me feel any different, and it certainly didn't fix anything. One thing that has been very helpful for me is to do Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). You should look into it!

Hi, I can relate to that, talking just doesn't really help (and in some cases made it worse for me). I find body related therapy helpful, such as polyvagal approaches, ego state therapy or trauma sensitive coaching, maybe there are good practioners in your area?
