Well I ended up taking myself to A&E last night, I started with a small lump under my jaw on Saturday and by last night it was absolutely huge, so a ct scan and blood test done, nothing except a possible saliva gland swelling up, well I tell you I've never had such a big face, so no definitive answer and 4 days of antibiotics given and sent on my way, except a doctor Saying we need to book you in at another hospital, yes for an urgent biopsy, and if I haven't heard anything with in 2 weeks I need to chase it up with my doctor , I've got a huge lump under my jaw still, and the swelling has caused a double chin, and eating food is darn difficult, so I'm a bit of a mess and have a face like desperate Dan, hoping the tablets do something, but it's still as bad from last night, ah well, another ailment added to the list, that's 3 different hospitals I'm now under and it's getting a full time job sorting out appointments, gee what next comes up from my body it's like a shopping list at tesco π«£

Not much joy at the hospital π
Hi Chris Oh my days! What's going on with you? I can't believe you've been left to actually wait for an urgent appt ? Why didn't they keep you in and do it there and then .
You've been through enough this year with non stop mri and ct scan etc.. I'm so very sorry π. I really hope you start to feel better very soon , if you feel any worse or you think its affecting your breathing call for an ambulance or take yourself back to hospital
Thinking of you
Linda
Cheers, honestly I'm scared to go to bed, my throat and neck area is like a double tyre , I'm struggling to eat food, and obviously I'm not a whimp but this is getting frighteningly large, I was thinking if it was an infection they would have kept me in and put me on a drip, but because the results weren't showing anything they sent me packing with just 5 days of antibiotics, I tried to speak to the doctor this afternoon and the receptionist said that they haven't had the report from the hospital, and they said reports are done instantly, so the receptionist said there's nothing they can do, I'm at my wits end and I'm worried about what this lump and swelling is, thanks for your concern π
I don't think my local hospital can do the biopsy, and obviously there just relying on what the scan and blood test showed , it's left me trying to guess what's happening and I don't like any uncertainty especially the way this thing is growing, it's been fairly rapid abd obviously I was hoping it would go down, but it's larger than last night, and I don't want to get to the hospital and told to go home,so it's a mess all of the whole process!
I'm so sorry Chris, thing is regardless of your local hospital not doing biopsy etc they have a duty of care to you , you need to be a bit more pushy with them in this situation , I know your not that way inclined Chris but honestly these days we have to take stronger control when it comes to our own health and the NHS ..
Hi,
Thank you for your post which reminded me of my own situation.
If you have a blogged salivary gland duct then the medication won't acutually help.
In my case, my explanation was that my salivary gland duct is not letting the saliva drain away and so it pooled in my mouth. I was referred to an oral surgeon for a procedure to remove the offending duct and gland.
I know that you might be worried because this blew up quite quickly as it did in my case.
I am not a doctor but I would reattend and ask for consult with an oral surgeon.
Well that's what they were telling me,and I have to believe that, obviously it's quite large and hasn't settled down, but I don't want to go upto hospital and sent packing they may not want to enter this problem and they gave me hardly information on what to expect, I'm struggling to eat and swallow food now, that is another new symptoms and I get ear ache as well, I wasn't given any time period for this condition and obviously it's pretty bad, but unless you can't breathe I don't think they'll entertain me, so kind of you to reply π
Iβd definitely go back if the swelling doesnβt go down, tell the itβs got worse and itβs urgent, take care
Oh my, that sounds terrible, but i'm really shocked that they've done nothing and expect you to put up with it for weeks , its not good, but i sincerely hope it will soon be sorted.
Thanks roddy I don't sleep well at the best of times, it's not as bad in the morning but by the evening it really tends to swell up more, I'm going to see how my eating is today as I found it hard to swallow yesterday, thanks for your kind words!
Likewise my sleep is abysmal, but i am concerned for the swelling you have and because it's affecting you're eating it sounds very worrying indeed. Thinking of you.πͺ
Thank you for your support, I always think about your circumstances, and its been a difficult few weeks for yourself , hope your doing OK π
You are welcome Chris and i hope you are a bit easier this morning. Yes its been a terrible time for me too. Life ain't easy is it.π
Yes the swelling is starting to go down slowly, I looked like I had been in the boxing ring with Mike tyson over the last few days, having a Sunday roast today, looking forward to eating a bit more food, still got a few other health issues that need resolving, but that's a whole different ball game, as always a pleasure chatting with you π
Hi Chris, im hoping your able to eat a little this morning, please go hospital if things progress , i hardly sleep myself Chris, drives me crazy !!
I'm becoming like an owl π¦π€£, yes it's awful not getting much sleep, i know I can rely on your " unusual " time of replies to meπ€£ your nocturnal as well!!! Took a double amount of pregabalin last night π«£π³ yes felt slightly " tipsy " and still feeling woozy, probably lack of sleep and have a tension headache from the few hours of kip I got, it's flipping horrible getting old !!!π¬π
Lol, yes me too , im the only one that watches the foxes at 2am π€£π€£.. albeit it's not nice at all , you tell others of your sleep issues and they look at you as if your making it up .. they need to step in to our shoes for a day or two. Oh taking double dose of pregabalin can make you sort of sleep for a while but yeah can make you feel groggy the next day .. fingers crossed you can catch up on sleep during the day ,that's what happens to me , I just totally nod off and I don't even know I've done that until I wake half hour later .. nope ! No fun this getting old Chris
Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this - I've been thinking about you lately, this must be why. Do you think it might possibly interfere with your breathing if it gets larger? You'd think they would keep you there, since it's such an unknown. I'll be hoping for the best for you. You've been so kind, caring, and interesting, so keep us posted.....
Possibly, but it tends to swell up more towards night time, I'm OK otherwise eating has been difficult, no T Bone steak for me π€£ yes I can ramble on sometimes, and it's always nice to have various conversations, the forum has been a lifeline at times , and I've had a very interesting life, met numerous famous people with my various jobs I've done, some were very nice and down to earth, and others thought they were something " special " because they had money, well as Shania Twain said " that don't impress me much " π€£ and I try to look at monty python and say " always look on the bright side of life!!! π€ͺπ€£
Hopefully you've seen some improvement today, Does ice help? I love Monty Python, he's so quirky and weird! Their old half hour show was hysterical; good movies, too. Maybe you can find him on Youtube.
I don't think ice or an ice pack would do anything, it's a lump and the swelling is fluid that's gathered underneath my jaw and chin area, yes I've seen numerous films and sketches or the television series about monty python, i can't remember which country they where they filming about the life of Brian where the government found out about the filming as the use of blasphemy wasn't acceptable, or something to do with religious reasons, but they just managed to complete the filming before they were " asked? " yo leave π€ͺπ€£
If it is affecting your swallowing, I think you need to go back for advice, especially if it gets worse in the evening. I know with lumps in the neck, they like to wait 2 weeks as many go down in that time. It is when they are still there in 2 weeks they do further tests. So, it is important to go back if still there then.
However, with it affecting swallowing, it is really important to let them know and decide if it is ok for you to be at home. Your airway and oesophogus are too close together to leave it, in my opinion.
You're welcome Cb1963

Maybe stronger antibiotics or different ones
Sometimes body does not react to one type of antibiotics and they become ineffective but definitely try others, ask doctors for effective treatment options
