post trauma , major depression and anxiety help

hello. Asking for help for my dad please .

My father had a truck accident in Dec 2023. Where his truck flipped to his side . He did hit his head but was conscious . He went to hospital had a back fusion surgery , and many broken ribs . Docs said he’s head was okay at that time. Recovered after a few months from the physical issues , although some pain but it’s manageable.

He started developing PTSD , where he would have nightmares about the accident and flash backs and would not stop thinking about the accident

After a few months the ptsd symptoms stopped where he doesn’t think about the accident any more , but became very anxious and with severe depression . He’s taking Ativan 0.5mg for anxiety daily , and prozasin 10 mg , mamentine 10mg for suspected Catatonia . Have tried a few ssri for depression but none seemed to work like lexapro, Zoloft, efferox, . The depression is very severe where he can’t function and needs 24 hour care takers with him . He’s tried therapy but he doesn’t talk , he has extremely low energy and does not want to do anything at all . Lowt 50 lbs

any recommendations for a intense residential or outpatient treatment center in the South Bay Area (Torrance, San Pedro ) CA area ?

or any recommendations for effective medication ?

he’s 73 male and was independent previously but now does not want to do anything at all

We are lost and do not know what else to do

He’s seen psychiatrist at Kaiser but they don’t seem to help

I am sorry he is going through this. I know it's hard at any age to really describe what they are going through or feeling. Does he connect or seem to connect well with anyone in his care team? He may be missing that connection, where he can feel comfortable talking.

I work in trucking . I have a couple of close friends who no longer drive due to medical issues. They have gone through depression because they feel that they lost who they were.

These are just thoughts.

I am not one that readily opens up about what I am going through or how I am feeling.

The experienced reply has been of great understanding.

I wonder if you could see part of your Fathers Medical Team to see how your Father is responding to treatment and what kind of therapy is available to assist with his depression.

The doctor has kind of given up , and recommend ECT for him , which is very scary

The issue is he does not want to do anything at all , does not want to go out , talk to people , watch tv , lost interest for everything . Take care of his Hygiene , nothing at all . Lost 50 lbs , eat very little and fast and walks up and wants to leave . Does not react to anything either I try to do for him . I try to take him out , cry in front of him , encourage, get upset but nothing seems to help him at all

I'm sorry that he is going through this. Maybe you guys can look into maybe fostering with your local animal rescue or maybe find a book from the library that he enjoys so the uninvited thoughts can stow away for sometime
