Overwhelming anxiety/depression

Have been under immense job stress and it’s finally come to a head. Had my longtime role as a Supv change in Jan and was downsized after a reorganization. Took a lesser role but my anxiety and depression have increased considerably and I can’t even complete a shift anymore. I’m experiencing severe social anxiety when taking calls and have felt physically ill. Always have been a good performer, even now but have decided to resign...people suggest I should consider getting fired but that doesn’t set well with me, I’ve never been fired...it’s starting to affect my sleep and the depression has been a roller coaster lately. I do see a psychiatrist for the depression but she mainly pushes meds and I’m considering changing...anyway, was looking to vent, trying to put my racing mind at ease 😕

Can you try some deep breaths to see if you can relax a little bit...then Think of something that was fun and relaxing you did or perhaps what place would you love to vacation at? I’ll wait for you to reply

Thank you, I’m doing better than I was earlier today but my mind keeps doing the doom and gloom playing what if worst case scenarios...unfortunately nobody here to vent to but I think this site will help with that. Thanks!

Hi, Its hard to keep working when mental health is not 100% at the best of times. How do you feel about disclosing your problems to your supervisor or HR department? Talking about it means that you can find a better way to come to work and do as much as feels comfortable. Disclosure is protected in law and you are entitled to request reasonable accommodations.

A good book on the topic is called "working in the dark" by Dawn Fitter.

The Beyondblue organisation in Australia has a great template from which to develop a staying at work plan plus information about mental health at work. I have used the template myself and have a plan developed just last month

Thank you for the information, my supervisor is aware and she and the company have offered me some information related to mental health. I just know now the role I’m in isn’t for me, I’m used to having much more flexibility plus I’ve discovered I have extreme social anxiety, specifically taking inbound phone calls which I’ve noticed a little in the past but has significantly gotten worse. Thanks again for your input, much appreciated 😊

This is good news for me. Some organisations don't deal well with people who are struggling. I hope you find something that is a better fit for you 🐨

I just wanted to say I'm so sorry you're having these issues. I'm not working these days because I've run into the same type of problems you're describing when I have. Too much stress is hard for anyone to take.
