Return to Work

I retired 15 years ago. Recently I decided to go back to work. I started cleaning a retail store 2 weeks ago. The company I work for uses the Workjam app for our work schedule. I cannot view my schedule on Workjam because my manager has not given me the correct login information. I worked 3 days my first week and 3 days my second week. I went into the store today to see if the new schedule has been posted. I am scheduled to work 5 days. I was trained at a store different from the store where I work. There are many differences between the two stores. I do not know what my job duties are. Every time I try to talk to my manager I get more confused. I had a meltdown while I was in the store. She does not want me to use the floor scrubber or the floor buffer but she said she wasn't going to tell me this. How will I know what she wants if she doesn't tell me? I am now scheduled for 2 days a week and my schedule will not be posted on Workjam because she can't get into the app either. She says I am doing a good job but how can that be true if she is reducing my duties and cutting my schedule?

This is not your fault. Maybe the company is the one who is cutting your schedule. Perhaps you should tell the manager how you feel and see what kind of response you get. You have to have a open honest relationship with your boss to made it work. If you don't there are other jobs.

Thanks for your reply. I have decided to give my resignation when I go in on Monday. I tried to talk to her and find out why I am being scheduled for 5 days a week when I have only been working 3 days a week and that's when she cut me down to 2 days a week. She asked me if I wanted to be a hanger. If I'm doing a good job as a cleaner then why offer me a job as a hanger? I can't talk to this woman.

Your boss sounds like she expects you to be a mind reader - I doubt that was in the job description.! It sounds like you do a really good job too, and you will be sorely missed, but definitely look after number one. I'm sure you'll get another job easily. I can relate, as my boss in my last job was a nightmare, but she was a micromanaging bully who picked on specific people she wanted rid of - and she got rid of me. I don't understand why there are people out there who seem to thrive on making other people's lives miserable. We all have to get through our lives together, why do some people deliberately put obstacles in our path?

Best of luck and keep us posted on how you get on.
