My dad is planning a trip to New York City, to catch a ferry ride to a place ( i dont remember the name of the place). He asked me if I wanted to come with him and my nephew. I'm a little torn between going and not going because we'll be on a boat with all these random strangers that I don't know, and my fear of judgment is so high that i'll be searching for evidence that shows that they were judging me. I'm also afraid people will look at me because I overheard their conversations. I can't help but hear whatever is in the vicinity of me, and that doesn't exclude conversations. I'll also be hyper vigilant and freeze up when I'm around strangers or duck my head or copy the movements of others (not in a bonding way). What should I do?

Ferry Ride Trip
Eric,
Can you do a -trial run - somewhere with a lot of strangers in a small area before New York? Is there somewhere you could go -on the ferry boat -to get away if you wanted to?
If you want to go, I’d just make a plan. I loved going on ferry boats- as a kid -We always saw dolphins too. I don’t know that I could go now- but I know it was great fun!
Best wishes on whatever you do!
Hi Eric, Sometimes the things we fear most are the ones we enjoy when taking
that step out of your comfort zone. Your choice my friend xx
I think you should go. Focus on your father and nephew and the city. People understand that when they are talking out loud that others can hear them. I think most people on a ferry ride to NYC will be looking out at the city sites. You can do this! Enjoy the time.
I say go. I have been to NY and it's kind of the best place to have anxiety because nobody gives a flying rats butt. Seriously. New Yorkers mind their business. Nobody is going to stare at you or nothing. You can copy people's movements all you want and seriously nobody cares. You can even breakdown and cry in the middle of the boat ride. Nobody cares.
And maybe you going and enjoying time with your dad and nephew and seeing sights will help you out with exposure. You can do it.
If you are not comfortable going, don't go. Just take it easy. It's a gradual process.
