Hello everyone,

On the 16th I noticed my dad had a mysterious charge on his bank account. At first I thought it might have been tax related, but after further research it turned out to be fraud.

So I instructed him to do the right thing and call his bank and get the card cancelled. They said it would take 7-10 business days for it to arrive (quite awhile to wait for someone to receive their debit card, as we purchase groceries with Instacart using a debit card).

So we haven't been able to buy food and rent payment is coming up soon, which is usually paid with the debit card. The management here is not very understanding about missed payments for any reason whatsoever, there is no sympathy if the bank is slow to send a new card and you have been victimized by thieves.

Also my family has taken the hands off approach and just don't really write me back or seem to care.

And so I am here in this support group. Having anxiety makes the situation much more difficult, but I am about to do my 3rd meditation of the day, and probably another hot shower because those relax me and ease the anxious feelings.

I had that happen to me, too. Best to call bank, yes and pay extra to get card earlier.

But make sure you phone bank again after few days to check that bank has blocked this person.

I am sorry and dealing with money not my strong point, I have to pay rent money and now can't pay my disabled son's rent and I should be getting help but at the moment not listening.

I hope you will find someway to pay the rent, I have used my retired mother to help me out.

Not very easy situation at all. Please take care and look after your dad and yourself.

Is there way you can pay through mobile banking and which may be easier?

Hi Vonus,

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Regarding paying extra to get the card earlier, unfortunately he did ask them that and its not a service they provide. I was really hoping that would be an option. I am not a big fan of his bank.

The other option to pay rent soon is through ACH (bank account number/routing number). We tried to buy cat food the other night on Amazon using the bank+routing number and the payment was declined by a service that Amazon uses called TeleCheck, without explanation. Which makes me worried there will be some sort of problem if he tries to pay directly from his account. This complex doesn't accept cash or checks.

I was able to help him add his bank account through the online rental portal, and there wasn't an error or anything when he did that. So I guess that is a good sign. But I won't really know if it is going to work until the rent charge is added and the payment itself succeeds. That will be a great relief...

If the debit card isn't in his mailbox on Monday, I will need to arrange to get him to the bank (we both don't drive). I worry about him getting sick in there as he is older, but that we might be forced to take that risk anyways.

So sorry you are going through this. You did the right thing by calling the bank. It happened to me in the past, few days to Easter and I have to borrow money to buy food for my children. I hope the issue is resolved earlier.
