Living with technology can be so stressful.

I really struggle with so much tech stuff, from online banking and paying bills.

Although i run a business, and do it successfully after a fashion, i get totally bogged down with dealing with everything.

This morning i changed my car,but garages no longer accept cheques for payment, you have to do it online, and what a kerfuffle its been,i have wasted most of the day trying to make payments due in part because i did'nt have a card reader, and i had to phone the bank to get it authorized which has taken forever.

And now i'm waiting for my insurance company to phone me back because I've had to change the policy.

I am reluctant to say so but i cannot get used to using a mobile phone, and it makes me feel useless, how stupid am I.

I get by very well working on my desktop computer but as for having everything on my phone, well,i just cant hack it.

I do suffer with ADHD and therein lies the problem.

Totally agree with you. I’m a technophobe and technology drives me crazy😡 Have you noticed how customer service is a thing of the past? All you get to talk to is a robot and if you want to talk to a human being on the phone you have to wait for ever or hang up! 😅

Oh yes. The menu- press 1 for this, 2 for that.....Drives me mad !

And don’t ya love, “Listen closely, as our menu options have changed?” No they haven’t. They’re the same ones as last year!

MadBunny in reply toLilyAnnepuppy

Haven't had that one yet😊

Don’t I know it!😅 I’ve decided all businesses have a deal with the phone companies and the longer they keep you hanging on once you’re connected they get paid a percentage of that call!😂 Obviously technology has some great advantages but some of the disadvantages aren’t far behind!

secrets22 in reply toXene

i have told several companies i dont wish to talk to a damn machine, whatever happened to personal service, it doesn't exist.

I'm with you on that one. I do pay my credit card bill on line , but that was only reluctantly because I couldn't go to the bank during lockdown. I don't think I've used a cheque for years. In fact, Im not sure I've even got a cheque book.

I appreciate that it is convenient for some , and to a lot of people, it's second nature- each to his own-but what about the ones who can't/ dont want to use it.

Personally, I wouldn't like to have everything on my phone.

Yep and all the high street banks have been shut down and you have to travel miles to go to one! I feel really sorry for older people, no wonder they’re taken advantage of even on their landline phones! I got a scam saying there was a warrant out for my arrest for tax evasion, scared the life out of me till I realised it was a scam.

We're still ok where I live - one bank has closed so far.

secrets22 in reply toXene

Oh blimey, that would have worried me sick to, its scary goings on now. And as for the banks, its outrageous, if i wanted to go to my bank i would have to travel to Bristol, and its not on.

in reply tosecrets22

Are there none in Nailsea?

Spoke too soon yesterday🙄Just had a letter to say my branch is closing in August. The nearest is a good 20 mins drive away. Good job I get my bus pass this year lol

Xene profile image
Xene in reply toMadBunny

Oh no what a pain in the backside! Can’t remember the last time I stepped inside a bank, last time I rang them I couldn’t answer one of their security questions (brain like a sieve) and they wouldn’t talk to me and hung up😅

.

I "try" to use my cell phone for strictly, "browse internet/text/calls". (rarely anything else)

Why? Simple, If you lose you're cell phone, it's kinda like losing your wallet.

.

Anything else I try to do on my computer.

Yes thats all I use my phone for.

Ha ha all my friends of the same age seem to have smart or android phones and they kept insisting I get one too.

I did but never managed to get the hang of it so got rid of it. It was smarter than me so had to go :)

Technology has made things hard for a lot of us. I think it's quite unfair.

"Technology has made things hard for a lot of us. I think it's quite unfair."

In a way, yes I agree with you.

.

But, in some ways it made things earlier as well.

For starters, this website was made because of technology, and being able to connect with people all over the world is kinda neat.

The ability to send and receive emails has made life easier for some.

& Heck, the ability to order goods and services online is nice too.

.

IMO - We had a good run with technology, until probably social media, and trying to get cell phones to do too much too soon was where I said, "Yeah... we probably went a little bit too far."

Of course all of that is just my opinion. :)

The thing I hate is having to remember so many different passwords for each account as they tell you not to use the same one , it’s a nightmare 😳

And then they tell you not to write it down, who on earth can remember every password.?😱

I think at some point in my life, I'll end up using a password manager.

But I'm going to hold out with that for as long as I can. :)

I use Google password manager and it makes things so much easier!!

I'm alright with memorizing passwords, it's just when they want you to memorize capital letters and symbols is when it sometimes gets frustrating.

I suppose the younger generation won't have a problem when they're our age as they will be used to it . Goodness I am sounding like an old f**t lol

Well if you are an old fool then most of us over a certain age are! I remember when young when my parents struggled with anything to do with technology (and there was much less then) thinking the same about them!

Now I find myself apologising to them even though they are long gone!

Totally agree with you & all the others that have written. I am in my 70's & am Tech. challenged. Can't just blame it on my age as I have trouble putting a Macy's Box together. But, with this digital age, I'm Lost! Have no one to help me, now, as my Sig. Other passed away last Nov. My Mom & Dad are gone & my Mom passed in 2020, but she never even had an answering machine. We used to laugh at her; but, I do Get her much more now! I Hate talking to a robotic machine on the phone, and getting a Live Human is near impossible these days. Even tho., my Sig. Other was in electronics, we both longed for the "Good 'ol Days!"

I'm 66, been using computers since late 90's, even remember Window's 95! Ouch! Using Laptop's since 2002, on my 13th, they are my 3rd arm, other than that, nothing, micro-wave oven first one blew up set off smoke alarm, mobile phones, terrified of them, a simple text phone [very private😝😝] actually today gave my number for prescription 😱 probably get Boots chemist adds on my text phone🤬as I have said before, definitely 20th century man, even the 'music' of today [hurts my ears!] in a taxi, they start that, I'm squirming away at the back🙄 Weatherwoman I do my weekly shopping in my local supermarket every Tuesday, boy do I need those black coffees when I get back☕☕☕AAH!

Oh tell me about it! My smart phone was smarter than me so it had to go!

As for doing stuff online my MO is to try and when I get stuck as usual ring them up and play the silly old woman act! It does work ha ha.

So comforting to hear from you and all your respondents! I have been feeling I'm the only one that is technologically challenged. My phones are a landline and a flip top cell that I hardly ever use. I had a smart phone but couldn't master it. In today's world I feel so stupid and behind the times . Technology changes so fast and I feel embarrassed that I don't text, scan payments, take photos and share them, etc.

👍Totally a 20th century man! Pushed into getting a mobile phone "for greater security"😝 stick to my simple text phone!👍Push this push that! in supermarkets, kids old enough to be my grand children, snatching the stuff out of my hands, putting it through again [smooth as silk] waiting for them "oldies🙄" when they think I'm out of earshot? An oldie nightmare😤 Computers upgrading all the time, laptops was 14 months life time, probably shorter? I am a historical researcher, the amount of old files, I have on back up, the trouble is some of the original stuff, is now lost forever, computer scanned originally put on, people thought now the original is safe forever, [getting rid of original material🥴🥴🥴]trouble is the next upgrading😱🥶💩lost forever!🥴🥴

Hi secrets22

I hope you are fine ?

What ? Not being able to use a cellphone or a "smart" phone would make you someone from an other age ? Someone stupid or useless ? No No No No and No !

Each and every human being is useful. And each and every human has a job to do here, whether he is able to create an iphone application, cook a meal or make bread, we all have the same value and are all as important as each other.

You can not use a cellphone, or you do not want to, this is YOUR perfect right and it is legitimate not to. The system around you must accept this and be able to work with people who do not want, can not afford or are not able to use such "2023 slave ball".

You are FREE, this is important. Keep this freedom as the most precious thing in your life and your soul. Ask for help to those who know when you need help, and do not self judge yourself thru a stupid piece of plastic !

Much love from France

O

Over here in Norn Irelan , they try to get rid of ATM's altogether, make everything Card's only, in other words make money things of the past💥

no question that as useful and convenient as laptops and cellphones are they can really be stressful to use at times. How many of us have had our blood pressure go thru the roof because of a dropped call, fat-fingered keys, accidental deletions, confusing apps etc.

technology: it’s not all flowers and sunshine 😳😡

Even though it totally goes against my aptitude and abilities I was in IT for most of my work career. The more technical things got the harder it was for me. I did well considering and there were some situations that actually suited me. But I hate to tell people I worked in IT because they make assumptions about me that are far from true.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Like it, or loathe it, commercialism/technology is running our lives, mankind's individuality is slowly but surely being drawn out of this world! Less choice as the bark of technology runs our everyday world! We have to listen to computerised voices, maybe accent dubbed for the particular part of the world they are aimed at🙄 We are in a number run world, one for this, two for this, etc, etc. Then technology has to be up graded, for the faster convenience of it's users, or greater security🥱 RUBBISH! Commercialism/Technology is tightening itself further around the throat of Mankind's neck!🤬
