I recently started the long-acting (24-hour)form of bupropion and it appears to be causing insomnia. I am wondering if taking the SR (12-hour) formulation just once daily in the morning would solve the insomnia problem while still being effective for depression. Does anyone have any experience taking the 12-hour bupropion just once daily?

Bupropion and insomnia
I have a family member that takes the 12 hour and she sleeps good, she's been on it for a long time though. Maybe moving to the 12 hour is your answer. Hugs, I hope you get it sorted.
I have never had a problem with any dosage of Bupropion. I now take 300 mg in the morning I think it’s xl and 150 mg at 5 pm. But the ends I take at night make me sleepy. One of them is Hydroxyzine, which is an old antihistamine. It’s used instead of a benzodiazepine or in conjunction. In any case talk to your doctor about it. He or she can decide which way to go with your dose. Or maybe add something at night.
They prescribed me the XL once, and it was doing some really strange things to me. I remember it making me really shaky and upset. So I asked to be put back on the SR and I went back to normal.
Thanks. Do you take the SR once a day or twice?
I can't remember. I weaned off of it several years ago. But I think I used the SR twice a day. I think it was 200mg twice a day when I was at my worst. Then I think it was 150mg twice a day when I was getting better. Then I think my weakest strength was 100mg twice a day. It's strange how the XL had a completely different effect on me and was so bad on me mentally. The doctor thought it was strange too, but he had to take my word for it since I had been on meds a few other times in the past. Trust your instincts.
I've been taking Bupropion XL for five years. I took 450 mg every morning and didn't suffer any insomnia. My insurance company won't cover that amount and I've been cut back to 300mg. I have been really depressed since. I have heard this medication is dangerous. I'm 65.
I'm not sure what kind I have, but I take bupropion in the morning only to avoid the insomnia issue.
