Anyone here have any ideas for dealing with insomnia? Lately it's been hard to sleep unless I take NyQuil, which I am not going to keep taking because I know it's bad for your liver. It's been making my depression worse, as I just feel tired during the day, and all I want to do is sleep. I've tried melatonin, chamomile, and valerian root, all of which aren't doing the trick lately. Any other suggestions?

Insomnia Makes My Depression Worse
Might mention Trazadone to your doctor.
Hi mvillarreal.
Have you ever tried melatonin. It is a natural substance and I found it helps. Comes in tablets and gummies.
Other things., Don’t use your tablet before bed. Keep a routine,. There are plenty of suggestions on web.
I need to get exercise during the day in order to get to and stay asleep.
Sleep is important for us so I hope something works for you soon.
You can also ask your Dr.for a script for trazodone 50 mg. It is an anti depressive med that makes people sleepy.
Take care and good luck.
Are you taking meds other than the NyQuill? I’ve used NyQuill while taking other meds and these increased low mood 10 fold, low mood = no motivation, tired and fatigue.
Are you taking an antidepressant for depression? If so, does it causes insomnia as a potential side effect?
I can confirm trazodone at low doses is sedating and can help with sleep. I took it for 3 years. Higher doses provide antidepressant but without sedation effects. So for sleep 50-100 mg is prescribed. Have to be careful adding meds together that effect serotonin, so your doctor needs to suggest what is best.
Grasping for straws, hard to know exactly what is causing insomnia without knowing more, but medications, combo of things we take can effect us differently. Lack of sleep increases anxiety and depression for me as well, finding what is causing it especially if sleep hygiene, or habitual things we start doing in lieu of insomnia. These things should be easy things to fix with regulating sleep, sleep routines, cleaning up our sleep hygiene, etc.
What's going on in your head while you're laying there unable to get to sleep? I have some tips, but It's easier to figure how to fix something when you know why is happening. Like for me I either can't get to sleep because my mind is racing, or I'm worried that I not going to sleep, some people can't sleep because they have nightmares etc... I know you don't know how to fix it or you wouldn't be asking for help, but do you know why it happening, other the just blaming it on the depression or anxiety? Also what does your day involve mentally and physically? And do you have a certain routine or is it just kind of all over the place?
My body just can't fall asleep. I don't even know what causes it. Even if I'm not anxious, it's like my body doesn't know how to fall asleep anymore. I kinda wonder if it's because I take such a high dose of sertraline because insomnia is a side effect of SSRIs.
