Would anyone like to share some of the things you do to help yourself when you're having an anxiety attack or are just anxious? I do have things I do, but wanted to see what works for others. I'm trying to fill my "toolbox" with as much as I can. I would love to hear your ideas!

I find that becoming aware of my breathing and slowing it down really helps. Then I start taking a slow deep breath in, and then exhaling slowly and counting to 4. I think I count to 4 when inhaling too.

Yes! This does help. Funny I just recently learned about box breathing, which sounds like what you've described. Years ago my mom bought me a wood and metal sign that says BREATHE. Thanks for sharing with me.

I try to engage with other people. Or go to the gym.

I have a hard time doing both of those when I'm anxious, but maybe I should try harder. I do let my husband know and he talks me mostly out of the attack. Thanks for sharing with me.

Try an exercise class. That always makes me feel better.

I have started to use the finger tap for mine especially when I have to walk near other people. I tap my finger to my thumb 3 times in turn on each finger starting one end it helps me to focus on something else rather than the situation in front of me.

I love this! I will definitely try this. I tend to dig my fingernails in my hands and looking for a less invasive thing. Thank you!

The key is to remember the 3 taps thumb to finger. If I get it wrong I will start again, it does take some concentration.

Yes, I was just trying it and noticed I really needed to count! Thanks!

How's the meditation going for you? I've been trying it this year, but feel like I'm missing something. I'm sure it's because I don't do it everyday like my therapist says.

Same here. I probably haven't practiced enough to see a difference. Plus I aways use guided meditations. I'll have to try it on my own with just silence. Thanks!
