I have learned and would like to share some coping skills again..I’ve learned and hope it helps anyone out there.
#1 I started spelling out words when I get anxious including ruminating thoughts off my mind. As I sit there or walk around house or do something I spell everything till I forgot what I was previously thinking. Example: I’m hungry. I say
I A-M H-U-N-G-R-Y or B-O-O-K, etc .. I just spell everything in my sight
#2 This is how I do it the 5-4-3-2-1 technique. I use my fingers to count.
Name out loud (5) things you see
Touch (4) things
Listen & what (3) things do you hear?
What (2) things do you smell? You can pickup something and what does it smell like?
What (1) thing do you taste -coffee, gum,etc?
Hope this helps anyone with anxiety it does for me. If I could I would suggest do it even when your not anxious it helps keep it down for me
