A next door neighbour I had a few years back was a single mum with 2 daughters. One of the daughters was a teenager and one was working age a few years older than the teen but still a young woman. (Just to set the tone, I'm the kind of neighbour who literally waves and says hi the odd time).Anyway im outside the front trimming the hedges when I see the older daughter pushing the mum into the house in a wheelchair. So I say is your mum OK? Thinking she'd had an accident and broken a leg or something and the daughter replies. No ... then proceeds to tell me that the mum was walking with the younger daughter and had jumped off a bridge near our houses intending to commit suicide. What actually happened was the mum jumped but didn't die and sustained serious injuries leaving her partially paralysed. So not only was the younger daughter traumatised beyond repair (future encounters with her showed me this) the older daughter became full time care for mum and teenage sister while working all hours to provide for her family.
Also whatever terrible situation the mum found herself in to commit the act in the first place were multiplied by 100 as now she had to go through multiple surgeries is confined to a wheelchair. Has to witness the struggle of the children she thought she'd never have to face again. And is presumably in pain or suffered pain.
Moral of the story?
Life's a bitch and then you almost die but make it worse

What an ironic twist of fate. Another case in point of why suicide should never be an option. I’m glad you shared this here. Ty
Definitely an ironic twist of fate. I just read my post back and I left out that when I asked oh is your mum OK? I did cry my eyes out after I knew she couldn't see and I did wonder for so long what had caused the mum to jump while her youngest was present? I didn't know the family well I would just Always be polite and continued to mind my business but after that happened I could definitely see the aftermath unfold they didn't live there much longer after that .
And like you said. A reason why suicide shouldn't be an option. I honestly feel That most people who make that terrible decision do it in the moment. And if even another hour or day passed they would have changed their minds
Very true. My husband suicided when he lost his high powered job, (after driving the children and I away with his violence and drinking. It was his third attempt (twice before I met him). They say Third time lucky, and thinking about it, it was probably the best thing he did for us; I know it sounds awful, but I've brought up and launched the kids on life without his 'help', because I can't help feeling that to carry on with him would have ruined us all.
