How are you doing today?

LadyZen profile image
44 Replies

I was trying to post something fun, but I'm not feeling well today. So maybe we can all do a quick check-in today.

How are you doing today?

And how will you be good to yourself today?

I'll start. Of course, I started this post, so I'm not well, a little sad to be specific. Why? Strangely, Britney Spears revealing the details of her memoir is triggering me. How will I be good to myself today? I think I'm going to eliminate anything stressful this weekend. Maybe I'll treat myself to some comfort food and Netflix after I clean the house this weekend. What about you? How are you doing today? And how will you be good to yourself today?

I'm sorry you are not feeling your best today, sending a virtual hug. Speaking of comfort food, this week I mixed vanilla ice cream with eggnog and added a drop of coconut extract "YuMMM 🙂" My 91-year-old mom's comfort food is blueberry muffins, so I mixed a batch for her while I was making my ice cream. Weekends are difficult for me because I associate them with social events. Simple things like walking on the beach, sitting at a fireplace chatting, or just watching a movie together. All of the things I once found to enhance my quality of life are now lonely activities.

I know I'm a downer and I hope to write something here to lift your spirits. How about a fun YouTube video that always makes me smile?

Yum, making blueberry muffins and ice cream! Sounds like a great way to unwind and treat yourself. Speaking of baking, a new episode of the British Baking Show is out tonight on Netflix. I'm not British, but I love that show.

I'll give it a watch. I like a lot of British Tv. Last weekend I binged a free trial of PBS Masterpiece

I've seen every season! I enjoyed the earlier ones the most because of the little history lessons on baking.

I LOVE British shoes! What did you watch?

Boston001 profile image
Boston001 in reply to Luvmyboston

Annika, Inspector Lewis, Professor T, World on fire, and a few I started watching but I have a hard time with subtitles lol

Luvmyboston profile image
Luvmyboston in reply to Boston001

I loved Annika! I’m the opposite. I love subtitles all the time, so I don’t have to miss any of the dialogue I don’t understand lol.

Boston001 in reply to Luvmyboston

Oh I do use the closed caption and English audio if available, but it drives me nuts when I read the description and get interested, then the show starts and it's all subtitles, I can only pause and rewind so many times before I lose interest

Did you watch the British series "Being Human" about a ghost, werewolf and vampire living in the same house? Or "Merlin"? Loved both of them 😍📺

Boston001 profile image
Boston001 in reply to LifeIsThePitts

No, I have heard of it but have not watched it. I love sci-fi but I'm not so much into magic, the occult, comedies, and horror. Although I did like watching Dexter and Lord of the Rings, that's horror and magical, 🤔 Hmmm. And if something funny happens in a show or movie that's fine, but I can't watch sit-coms

in reply to LifeIsThePitts

Loved 'Merlin' saw on sky and I don't know whether on Netflix but would definitely watch again

The Great British Bake Off is such a wonderful show! I will second it as a recommended comfort show :)

PBS has also a lot of wonderful shows.

LadyZen profile image
LadyZen in reply to GlowingDarkly

It's such a popular show, but I don't know of too many Americans that watch it as diligently as I do.

GlowingDarkly profile image
GlowingDarkly in reply to LadyZen

I do not diligently watch it as much as I would like. I tend to save shows like that for “rainy day” watching, because I know its a safe, relaxing choice. But I have been keen to start the latest season!

Once upon a time, I tried getting my ex into it but I think she just was humoring me when I put it on. Though it did lead us to find another baking show called, “Nailed It” which is a funny watch.

Today I had a job interview at 11.30am and gave it my best and went away from it feeling I had given it my best which is all I can do really and they will get in contact a week on Monday at the earliest!

This week I have been facing fears of crowded buses and on Monday and Tuesday went on the early 8am buses when I had later appointments down in the city centre to prove to myself everything was fine and there was nothing to be frightened over and I did the same this morning got on the 8am bus down to the city centre which was busy and then onto my interview for 11.30am.

This afternoon it's swimming and after my interview got a crowded lunchtime bus which I survived like i did on Tuesday!

On Tuesday I was on the bus up to swimming and the phone went and someone tried to get me to do something I didn't want to do and I told them no no thank you and rearranged for another time!

Saying no to that meant saying yes to myself and I had a nice quiet day as planned on Wednesday with an early walk out to the park and at the park what I did was stood at the reen with a list of anxieties no matter how small and threw them in the reen to let go of them which I feel has helped!

Yesterday I was waiting to go swimming and the phone went and it was someone asking me into an interview today and with confidence I said no today wasn't possible which wasn't lies as I already had booked appointments so no it wasn't possible and she got nasty saying when exactly will you be able to come in and I said I would ring them when I had time and put the phone down!

I might ring them to arrange an appointment should I really really have nothing better to do which I think is fair enough!

A few weeks back a place rang me to demand I come in for interview the following day and again I said no to them that wasn't possible and then they had asked about that Saturday and I had already arranged to go out with someone else and had said no that's not a good day for me as I have already made arrangements and they had the cheek to ask me what were the arrangements for?

OK the arrangements weren't anything that was private as it was a hike in the Newport area but that's not the point as they had no business prying into things that didn't concern then!

After they had asked what the arrangements were for I had said to them with all due respect my arrangements are none of your business and it had felt like the phone hadn't quite been slammed down on me after I said that!

Its frightening the way these selfish people turn when someone won't give them their own way!

I did go for that day out after and really enjoyed it!

Wow! That is amazing, being able to establish and hold firm to your boundaries while also confronting facing down your fear of crowded buses? Fantastic. We’re internet strangers but I feel so proud of you and I feel inspired. I also have had a hard time saying “no” and establishing my boundaries - I am always quick to please! And I have an extreme aversion to certain crowded spaces so what you were saying about the buses really resonated.

Keep going for it! Prioritizing and standing up for your own needs! You rock!

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to GlowingDarkly

Just to clarify I won't be going on crowded buses every chance God sends as that would be silly!

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to GlowingDarkly

Friday evening at 5pm I got a message asking me would I be available for a phone interview yesterday and I told them no I wasn't available yesterday as I had already made arrangements and that was that!

Yesterday I went out for my birthday lunch and bowling which were the arrangements for yesterday with my friends that had been booked in advance for ages and enjoyed the day anyway and told them about them wanting to have done a Saturday phone interview at short notice and how I had told them no and that I had made other arrangements and that was that and they said good for me for standing my ground!

I withdrew that application anyway and told them that I am no longer interested in it!

If it was an urgent matter then i would have done the call but with respect a phone interview for a job is no emergency!

Boston001 profile image
Boston001 in reply to Turnipgirl

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing this with us. If HR is this nasty before the interview, it's probably a good indicator of how it would feel to work for them. I've never had a problem standing my ground with rude strangers. This makes me a poor candidate for public relations, sales, or front person. I do however have difficulty with people I care about. I tend to become a doormat and have a hard time identifying when I am being taken advantage of.

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to Boston001

That's what I said if they are rude to me on the phone because I won't give them their own way then what are they like to the people that work for them?

Yes. I needed these words:

"Its frightening the way these selfish people turn when someone won't give them their own way!"

Back in April after I had been to court they got a possession order from the court and I was ordered to leave in 14 days and my solicitor said to me do not move out until you get another place to live or you get evicted by the bailiffs!

The 14 days passed and their agent tried to evict me herself and I got the police involved and there was a fuss and the city council who told her off saying she wasn't to pressurise me into leaving and that was what the bailiffs are paid to do and she was to go back to court to get the bailiffs to evict!

When I said about my legal rights she had said less of your attitude and to that I had said to her shut your f ing face you stupid cow and she had told the police I had sworn at her and all they did was laugh and she had shouted she was getting the bailiffs just to bully and backed off after I had sworn at her and made a fuss!

I was frightened though the way things escalated when I made it clear I wasn't giving her her own way and that if she wanted to evict go through the legal process and let the bailiffs do their job!

Thankfully I got out of there the day before the bailiffs came to evict after they had visited the place whilst I was out and had delivered the eviction warrant by hand which is what they are paid for!

When I got that letter it was a relief to know where I stood but still i was terrified though!

Going through all that knocked my confidence but it's returning slowly but surely!

So far today I am feeling decently well rested, I actually did not have that bad of stress dreams and I didn’t wake up covered in sweat! So I already am feeling some positive momentum building.

I still got a few calls I need to watch out for so I cannot completely let my guard down but today I really plan to focus more on not dwelling on what needs to be done come Monday, and focusing on being able to relax this weekend.

I would like to make more progress on this RPG I’ve been playing, I am always so bad at finishing games I buy, but the story is so charming that I feel so compelled to finish it. It sounds weird but I really want to get better at finishing projects or self-motivated projects that finishing a video game really is sort of a big deal for me.

I also plan on going for a walk and spending at least an hour outside not glued to my tablet.

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling 100% today LZ - having a trigger go off from an unexpected source is never fun, so if you need or want any sort of extra ear, mine is always open. Thanks for putting together this thread!

You can tell Monday to get in line for your headspace. You've got video games and walks to enjoy this weekend.

mrmonk profile image

If you don't mind sharing, which RPG are you playing?

GlowingDarkly profile image
GlowingDarkly in reply to mrmonk

Absolutely! I am currently playing through Sea of Stars. I have a real love for retro style rpgs. I am also eyeballing resuming/restarting Octopath Traveler 1.

Do you like playing RPGs?

mrmonk profile image
mrmonk in reply to GlowingDarkly

I know I've heard Octopath Traveler listed favorably on some Gameranx videos and I think Sea of Stars, too.

I don't think I've played a JRPG-type game, unless the first Legend of Zelda would count...boy, now I'm showing my age!😸

But, oh yeah, I definitely enjoy RPGs. I love the Divinity: Original Sin games and am looking forward to playing Baldur's Gate 3, though I'm a little intimidated because I've never played D&D -- tabletop or otherwise (I have played The Marvel Superheroes Roleplaying Game also published by TSR because I used to read comic books and sensed the Marvel game would be easier for my feeble brain to grasp 😸 ).

Do you play on console or PC (or both)?

GlowingDarkly profile image
GlowingDarkly in reply to mrmonk

Hah, one of my first video games was the original Legend of Zelda on the NES, a true classic!

I play games both on PC and console, but currently favoring my Switch, I’ll always be a Nintendo fanboy. How about yourself?

mrmonk profile image
mrmonk in reply to GlowingDarkly

Though I grew up on the consoles -- from Telstar (now I'm really showing my age) to the early Playstations and Xboxes -- I'm exclusively PC now .

(Oh, I edited my previous comment to reply about my liking of RPGs).

TRIGGER FOR VEGANS!

We took a 3 hour drive this a.m. to deliver pigs to the processing place. Nice morning for a drive. Not feeling well myself. I think I’m going to have lunch and watch tv for awhile. Then maybe work on my miniatures if this headache lets up. Hope you feel better.

Oooo, yeah…I think reading Britney’s memoirs could be a downer. You’ve got a plan to perk yourself up, though. Netflix, PBS and comfort food. Me, too.

I love ❤️ PBS and went through withdrawals when during the height of the covid era, the programming, I think, took a 👃🏻 dive…or maybe I took a 👃🏻 dive…Anyroad, I saw a preview of some of the programs I missed and new ones on the way 👏and there’s great🥳 stuff to look forward to watching 👁️. It’s always calming for me. I’m humming. (there’s no emoji for that)🤷‍♀️

I’m doing ok….✅ as long as I can get a laugh 😂 or two 😂😂in somewhere. So far today, I’ve had a good share of them. 👠👠🪼( I don’t know what that blue thing is but I thought I’d throw it in cuz it’s cute)
