Hi, I am EL and suffer from social anxiety disorder. I am introverted and fear being exposed to the public, interacting with people for more than a few minutes, or even struggle looking at people in the eyes. I tend to get my hands and armpits sweaty when I get anxious along with shortness of breath. I need help to lose this fear and be more confident when socializing with people.

Hello. I know social anxiety very well. I used to get so stressed about social situations that I would get migraines or cry. My entire time on school was a nightmare, and adulthood was full of loneliness and states of panic. When I sought treatment for depression in my 30s and was prescribed Prozac, I received unexpected help for my social anxiety. I went from being crippled socially to being a social butterfly. My social anxiety is literally gone. If you haven't done so already, please speak to psychiatrist about this. Medicine, Prozac or something else, may be about to help you, too.

Hi, I also experience social anxiety and sweaty palms, feet…What puts me at ease is starting conversations with random strangers. Commiserating about weather with neighbors, asking to pet a dog while out, complimenting someone on a shirt/hair/etc… It seems when I approach people with a smile and a kind word, they respond similarly. I am also in therapy, and that helps.

People with social anxiety generally also suffer from low-self-worth and self compassion. Learning to love and accept yourself warts and all and being able to validate and stand up for yourself is key. I was bullied as a kid and punished and shamed for trying to stand up for myself or being proud of myself so I developed social anxiety and had to learn and cultivate self-worth for myself. There is a lot of good info on youtube about how to do it.
