A nervous system sensitised by high anxiety makes all our problems and worries seem ten times bigger than they are. Every headache must be a tumour. Muscular tension in the chest must be a heart attack on the way. A stomach ache must be cancer of the colon. Even the normal concern not to die before our time becomes magnified into a feeling of impending death.
That old quack Doctor Google is only too willing to confirm our worst fears.
Even when we go for medical tests and scans and doctors say we're fine, there's still a tendency not to believe them. We think they must have 'missed something'. So we continue fearing the worst and over sensitive nerves feed on fear. This causes more bad feelings, anxiety and depression and so the vicious circle rolls on and on. Until we say Stop!
Until we say we've had enough of fearing the worst all the time. Had enough of fearing non-existant outdoor threats that stop us leaving the 'safety' of our home. Not willing to put up with the fear of wondering when the next panic attack will come.
No matter how ill you feel everyone can find recovery or respite. What works for one may not work for another. But there's a whole bunch of solutions out there: medications, talking therapies, self help books and YouTubes. Search and you WILL find.
People with anxiety and/or depression are some of the bravest people on this planet. They're also among the strongest because despite their burden they still carry on looking after families and holding down jobs.
You are all heroes and heroines, you should have a chest full of medals for your acts of courage and your power to endure. Don't you ever forget it for one minute.
