I have been digging into the root cause of my anxiety around going to work or events.
I seem to be overly scared of going to a public place and feeling ill/not well in general and then not being able to get to a comfortable place or out of the public eye.
Does anyone else have this?
I have been very sick on a few business trips needing to deal with it and get home, so Im thinking this may be the cause….

Hi Mayhem79, It sounds like social anxiety disorder or agoraphobia.
I suffer from some mix of these too. If you find out why, or the cure, make sure you post it here, there are a lot of people wondering.
I find that intellectually I know that there is nothing wrong, but it doesn't stop my brain from going haywire and making me feel like I'm about to have a panick attack or pass out.
it could be that your dealing with social anxiety and think people are constantly judging you and your perceptions of how people see you and you see others is distorted. Knowing what you are dealing with can help in getting the right treatment for it. You might try finding a therapist that specializes in treating social anxiety, they may incorporate exposure and group therapy as well as teaching you new ways of thinking and perceiving about yourself and others. There are also online courses and info on youtube about it. You might check out Sebastiaan at Social Anxiety Solutions.
Anxiety's roots are sometimes hard to discern. It is sometimes more useful to focus on strategies to prevent or deal with it when it pops up.
Anxiety is fear of a future event. You can change how you experience the event or how you respond to the event. It is very Buddhist to just live in the moment and drop expectations of what might happen in the future.
