I've been taking Zoloft but it doesn't seem to be working anymore. Prozac stopped working before too. What's something I can take that isn't a benzo to help me with anxiety?

My medication isn't working
Hi, for myself I found the answer for my anxiety through Meditation and Breathing.
I do that daily before bed, midafternoon and before sleep at night. I use other forms
of Meditation on YouTube. Mindfulness is a way of staying in the present moment
and not allowing your mind to ruminate the past or the future.
After 30 years on Xanax, I was weaned off it slowly and found my life more clearer
as well as my head. I was no longer so sleepy all the time. Meditation/Breathing
became the "key" for me. Works faster than popping a pill and puts me in control.
Of course, always ask your doctor what may be best for you. xx
Depression medications like setralin or any other SSRI have anxiolytic effects. Buspirone can be a good anxiolytic too for chronic/persistent anxiety. You can take drugs like beta-blockers (like propanolol) to treat some symptoms of your anxiety. Talk to your doctor about your meds not working and your specific symptoms so that he/she can give you an alternative treatment.
But Agora has a point, if medications alone is not working then maybe adding things like meditation, relaxation, and taking your mind off of the world for a moment can help you calm down for a bit and reconsider what to do from there.
I hope this helped, stay strong <3
Gabapentin is an anti-seizure and nerve pain medication. But it's also used off-label to treat many other conditions, including anxiety, alcohol withdrawal, and hot flashes. The dose of gabapentin for anxiety and other conditions can range from 300 mg per day to 3,600 mg per day.
You have gotten some good suggestions from other members. There are also newer types of treatments becoming available such as TMS and ketamine and psilocybin. However, these are still semi -experimental and often expensive.
In my experience, finding the right treatment for depression is as much an art as a science.
Years ago I went to a new doctor who would not prescribe any benzos. She switched me from serax to Buspar which really helped me once it started working. It is not fast acting but takes a few weeks to kick in. And, as suggested by Agora, some meditation/relaxation techniques help as well. Although I always found it difficult to meditate while being extremely anxious.
I just had this experience with Zoloft! My psychiatrist increased my dose from 150 to 175mg and it works again. I hope you can also try some of the techniques others have shared. I wish you all the best during this difficult time.
hi, what about meeting with your psychiatrist? Maybe changing to Pristiq, Trintellix or another antidepressant can help. Or adding Wellbutrin or Rexulti has helped me. Good luck! Just know it's normal and a change in medication should help.
