I’ve taken clonazepam in the past 1mg a day for 2 yrs... the. I stopped for a few months and now back on it along with Prozac . I take .5 / 3x a day but it’s really not calming my anxiety symptoms. Can’t it just stop working ? Has anyone experienced that?
At the hospital they gave me Ativian and I felt like it worked much better ...

Tell your doctor this! Different medications work differently in all of our bodies and nobody knows your body like you.
The medicine has not stopped working. What has occurred is your brain has built a tolerance to the medication. The mistake you don’t want to make is to take more than is prescribed even though you aren’t getting the same results. Benzodiazepines can become addictive. So I would take what is prescribed and bring up the ineffectiveness with the prescribing doctor. They might be able to prescribe something else that will be of benefit.
Thank you. I called my psychiatrist today and she increased the dosage. Starting tonight I’m taking 1mg pm , .5 midday and 1mg am . So 2.5mg today a day .... will see if it helps with the anxiety symptoms . Hopefully it will get better after the fluoxetine kicks in. I’m on week # 2 at 40mg . May God bless us
Thank you! I took klopin and built up a tolerance. After awhile it just took the edge off my anxiety. It helped me to practice my coping skills while still feeling some anxiety. I haven’t taken it in seventeen years. I will be praying for you. Anxiety disorder is a heavy burden at times. God bless you.
'Here am I' is right in that you develop a tolerance to benzodiazepines over time. When I found clonazepam wasn't working as well as it used to, my doctor prescribed me Xanax (alprazolam) and it worked out fine. Be careful though as they can be habit-forming. You might ask your doctor if there are any SSRI's stronger than Prozac that you could take for your anxiety. Celexa (citalopram) worked very well for my anxiety issues after being on Prozac for two years. For now, I would just stay what your on and give it a chance to come to fruition.
