I've been taking 150mg of sertraline and this past month I've noticed I feel less and less of its positive effects, and now I think it has stopped working altogether. Do i need to switch meds? Does it have something to do with the changing seasons?? All suggestions appreciated!#antidepressants #sertraline

Have my antidepressants stopped working?
A consultation with your doctor could be helpful. I’m not sure that medication would cease to work only that it might level out and you could feel like they have stopped.
I am on the same dosage at the moment. I do know they can add another another medication if you have anxiety that’s worsening or they can try another medication. Hope this helps!
Google the Pooped Out affect.
Could just mean that you need a dosage change, or perhaps you could do with a new medication. best person to consult is your doctor, unfortunately we are not medically qualified here to advise you.
Cheers, Midori
I would say possibly dr could up your dosage but don’t know how much is safe. Both my father and my 23 year old daughter take Sertraline and started at 50mg; dr increased dosage to 75 for each after while when it didn’t seem to be working. I myself use a different antidepressant but my dr added a second when it quit working. Do speak to your doctor! Best of luck.
It is not unusual for meds to stop working. Talk to your doctor about either increasing your dose or trying a different med. I was on Prozac for about 10 years when it stopped working (during that time dose was increased). Same happened with Celexa for about the same amount of time following being on the Prozac. After that it was hit or miss with meds for me for years until a few years ago when nothing helped or they gave me intolerable side effects. Went with TMS after all that and for me it really helped!!
I was up to 200mg/day on it so it's possible to increase it and see if that helps. You could go up to 175mg first and try that. You can get a pill cutter at your pharmacy if you need to.
It is a well-established fact that most anti-depressants will stop working after a period of time, and nobody seems to know why. This period can vary from a few months to several years. Has happened to me more times than I can remember. In your case, you could try going up to the maximum dose of 200mg and see if that helps. If you do switch drugs, I would not go on another SSRI like Sertraline (no Paxil, Lexapro, etc.) since an SSRI is what pooped out on you, but try a drug from another class, an SNRI like Cymbalta (duloextine). Then if that works for however long and then stops working, you could probably go back to Zoloft since you had a break from SSRIs and it might work again (something I have also done) until that stops working again, etc. It can be a real merry-go-round.
May need a increase dose
