suffering for years with GAD, Insomnia, Depression, OCD.

My husband has got me through much of my sorry state I don’t know how I would cope without him.

sadly he has just spent 5months in hospital, and I’ve been struggling to care for him now when he needs me most.

Regardless of my conditions I do my best and drag myself around caring for him 24:7 he has Parkinson’s disease late stages with dementia.

I decided to go to GP for any help and told him I was struggling and felt a few glasses of wine were getting out of hand, using it as a crutch, couldn’t cope and couldn’t sleep.

I looked on my GP notes referring to some meds I was taking and seen that the GP on my visit to him had put down as one of my conditions Alcoholism.

I am so sorry I went to see the GP now I feel totally let down and can’t stop crying can’t sleep because of the addition to my conditions he didn’t even discuss this with me I’m absolutely devastated.

So depressed no body cares anymore I will never confide in a gp ever again.

thanks for listening xxxx

hi sorry to hear about your husband I know the struggles being a carer with family who have dementia it`s an almighty task. I`d be asking for his notes to be changed to stress/depression related rather than alcohol and if they don`t I`d be changing practice. also he should be helping you get help from the social services and local dementia support groups.

Kenster1 is right. I mark up notes and take them back often. It usually is out of confusion given I have physical conditions most people have never heard of. But for this it is a must, do it for you! I will send lots of good vibes your way. My Mom is end stage and my Father is doing his best to keep her home. I truly empathize with your situation.

Kenster is right. It was very inappropriate of the gp to write that. It was also inappropriate that he didn't offer any options to help. I would be inclined to change gps if you can.

Complain to the Practice Manager; That is not good practice. Write to him so It is on record.

It takes more than one visit to diagnose alcoholism; Blood tests and other tests come before diagnosis.

Some doctors are getting very holier than thou about alcohol, although mixing it with certain medications isn't good. Jumping to a conclusion on a diagnosis is not good.

Cheers, Midori
