I have been taking 4 mg Xanax and now i have switched to klonopin (Rivotril) to try to taper off.
How much time it takes to lower the tolerance to feel the same effect ? In the past 0,5 mg made me calm and 1 mg kicked me off. Now i can hardly feel anything with 4 mg.
So how long does it takes to reset the tolerance?
Thanks,

That's an interesting switch. I'm guessing only trial and experience would be able to answer this accurately. Fortunately they're both longer last- good luck with the change
This is something I have done. I have been prescribed longer acting benzos to get off of the shorter ones and reset. Klonopin is usually the first choice. I am actually doing this right now to get off of Ativan with Valium. I have been able to come on and off of Benzos several times. Everyone is different, but wanted to share that it isn't an unheard of method. As for time and as other suggest, we all react differently!
But guys, you dont understand me. First i want to be benzo free, but after that lose the tolerance, so that i can take benzos again if needed ocassionaly. How long does it take to get back the effect ot these medicines?
I hear your frustration, and I'm sorry for what you're going through. Unfortunately, no one can answer your question bc it does vary from person to person. It really depends on how long you've been on it, dosage, frequency of use, and even if you take it for something else other than for its intended use. And sometimes you may not get the effect you want once you're off it and want to take it again. For many of us, our bodies' reactions do change w/ long term use of these meds. You need to speak w/ your doctor and tell him/her what you hope to happen and if there are other ways you can taper off benzos. You can also find ways (non-meds) to ease your anxiety while you're cutting down on benzos. Deep breathing for me is my first line of defense when I feel a panic attack starting. Then if it lingers and anxiety sets in, I try to take a nap (if possible). If all else fails, I take my meds (clonazepam) and just rest for a bit until the anxiety passes. So, there really is a lot of trial and error that you have to go through because your body is diff from mine and everyone else. I truly wish you well.
I always found speaking to a Pharmacist is really helpful. They know way more about the medications and are much more accessible than doctors. I really hope you don’t have to wait too long for the effects of your medication to settle. That feeling of complete numbness isn’t nice. Sending you big hugs and love 🙏🏻🍀❤️😘xx
Every person is different. I have been on Ativan for quite some time, but only take it prn(1 mg). I can go days or a couple weeks without needing it. Several years ago I was on Buspar, a slower acting non Benzo) and it worked great for a while. Don't remember why or when I went off of it or was taken off of it.
