Does anyone else find themselves to be overly sensitive?

is this a trait if those prone to anxiety/depression, you think?

I am hyper sensitive to things I know are out of my control, bringing me often to tears and really just messing with my mental state.

I just hate that I’m like this!

probably not what you meant unless you hadn't considered triggers. i work with someone that treats me like i am overly sensitive to cover his defensiveness and if i were less experienced i would buy into it. Women are just more emotional right? (NOT) Still frustrating and it has a chilling effect tbh. He is quite deviously clever about it too... obviously has practiced. That could happen with any number of things. Perhaps recording what is going on at the time would help.

i think people think this is a good thing, like my therapist, but i don't think being super sensitive is a personality trait, i think it's like you said, a overwhelmed threat system

a threat is real or perceived, and when we perceive social threats too deeply we might become more hypervigilant, and feel threatened, doesn't mean that they are really threatning

that's why, cognitive therapy is good, because it's not reality that is making you suffer, but your perception of events, i know this sounds gaslighting, but not in that way, the story we tell ourselves usually is the story we are responding to.

I am VERY sensitive. When someone says something I analyze it for weeks or even months. I can't get over it, especially if it is something close to me like about my age or my looks. I have always been this way. Things that are out of your control, are just that. I always say this.. don't worry about it until you have something to worry about. Yes, it's hard.. it's SO HARD but why do we waste our time on things we can do nothing about? Your time is so precious. Just let it go and most times those things out of our control will resolve themselves anyway. You got this! you can do it. Be positive and remember your are stronger than you think.

Kelkel00, I am truly sorry for the loss of your father as well as your mother

being so ill. I do believe that those of us who suffer from anxiety comes from

over caring in what people think of us as well as wanting to have control of

everything in our lives. Once we are in that position, anxiety grabs hold and

makes us feel even less in control.

A book that became my foundation in recovery was by Dr. Claire Weekes entitled

"Hope & Help for Your Nerves". She herself as a Psychiatrist had Anxiety issues as

well as her patients. She worked on a theory of Acceptance as being the "key" to

getting back control of your life. The book is on Amazon but the videos are free on YouTube.

As we learn from others on this forum, we can apply it to our own journey. As long as we

go forward and don't stay stuck, we are winning. :) xx

hi kel and angora ive always been over sensitive someone put a link on with a test questionaire, confermed i am that personality type helped me be less hurt when people say stuff that id normally be really hurt over knowing a off the cuff comment to them which no hurt was intented helped me brush things like that off easier, during grief our emotions are raw and close to the surface anyway, i avoid triggers like tv where theres cruelty to animals etc i turn them ads of and i avoid insensitive people, its better to be sensitive to others feelings than the insensituve type sending hugs 🤗🌟

I go back and forth with myself about this, I know I am sensitive but not sure if i'm overly sensitive, but I suspect it. You might check out highly sensitive people (HSP's) on google and youtube and see if it fits you and that you are not alone. There are also numerous books available about it.
