I have periods of anxiety that take over my brain for months at a time. All day I monitor every thought to gauge my anxiety levels. It’s exhausting. What do others do to break that cycle?

obsessive thoughts
Hi Trish, it is exhausting! I feel you, trust me. When I get the non stop catastrophic thoughts in a loop- I try distractions, walk my dog, read something, listen to a podcast. I also talk back to the thoughts as an observer and say… “ lies”, “stop”. Don’t know if that’s therapy sanctioned but it’s what I do. Take care of yourself and wishing you the best!
Hi Trish23, I Meditate and do Breathing exercises throughout the day.
And like "Celinesnana" I silently talk back to any catastrophic thoughts.
After all, these thoughts don't help but just hinder the situation.
My "go to" is YouTube where you too can find Meditation for any kind of
obsessive thought or anxiety. The more you practice and listen to these
videos, the better you become at not letting the situation grow.
We can only advise you as to what has worked for us. Take what you need
and delete the rest of the ideas given. Once you find what works for you,
the veil of obsessive thoughts will lift. My best to you xx
I would second Celinesnana and Agora. I find distractions work. I also try (but am not always successful) to try to take a step back, take a deep breath, calm down and think of something positive. Some times that gets me over the circle of thoughts. I've also find that talking my way through it, out loud, really helps. Something about hearing a voice walk me through it, rather than just my internal monolog, helps convince me and calms me.
Hope that helps. I wish you all the best.
Listen to Paige Pradko CALM series on youtube. If they make sense practice them. They are for anxiety disorders and I think useful for the many techniques mentioned there. Pick and keep at the once that jive with you.
I do the same thing. Day 3 for me right now. I’m trying to figure out what helps.
